Default Error code P2138

I went to leave work yesterday and the check engine light came on and I noticed the accelerator wasnt working right. I hooked up my OBD2 scanner and it showed P2138 which is or a voltage discrepency in the Accelerator Position Sensor. I checked the contacts and cleaned them with contact cleaner just in case. I didnt notice any issues with the wiring but I didnt test voltages. My reader shows no throttle response until the pedal hits 45%.

Long story short it looks like the sensor might be bad, only problem is I cant find one anywhere. Does anyone know where I can find a new one?

Don't assume that sensor is bad.

Thumbs Up Re: Error code P2138

Thanks for the information. I took apart my fuse box and cleaned it real good with contact cleaner. I did noticed those small water droplets they mentioned on the rubber seals. Put it all back together and now my pedal works fine. CEL is still on (P2138 still) but hopefully it will go away after I drive it a bit. Thanks again!

After drying the box, the code took a few days of intermittent activity before disappearing permanently for me.

Now we need to find a way to prevent water from entering the box.

Were the clips to your cover tightly closed? Or was it apparently a failure of the rubber-like gasket? Or from somewhere else?

If it is the latter, maybe some type of rubber-silicone, non-conductive grease on the gasket would be helpful?

The CEL went away on my drive to work. As for preventing moisture from getting in there again I thought about creating a barrier around the battery/fuse block area to keep water from splashing in there.

I just got the CEL code P2138 the other day. It happened at the very end of a long road trip. 91,000 miles on my 5-speed XE. Suddenly the pedal was completely unresponsive until about half throttle, and full throttle felt like limp mode. It happened on the interstate The entire road trip was dry sunny weather.

I limped it to our destination, unpacked, and took it to a parts store to get the code read. The pedal issue was gone after starting it up again, but the code remained. Later that evening and a couple start-ups later, the CEL was gone. It's been a few days and it hasn't returned...hopefully just an isolated glitch?

Just happened again last night while idling in traffic, causing me to stall the engine. Once I got going again, I cycled the ignition on and off while coasting and the pedal went back to normal. Hasn't rained for a week, so there shouldn't be water anywhere. Is this something I can fix with a new throttle pedal assembly?

This was happening to me about 2-3 months ago. I was getting a code for throttle/ pedal correlation. I got whole new throttle position sensor and a new pedal for about $150 from a GM dealer. Install was quick and easy took about 10 minutes. Just a couple bolts and a plug. Might be worth a try.

Edit: Mine was a different code, but it still states its the same thing. Throttle position sensor. Added a few words.

The water slowly leaked into my box and no way that would evaporate as is sealed well...but not well enough. Check out my post above for some preliminary ideas...
