Default 2004 Saturn Vue - Will Not Shift into Reverse - Manual Transmission

2004 Saturn Vue - Will Not Shift into Reverse - Manual Transmission

As the subject says, my mom has a 2004 Saturn Vue that would not allow her to shift into Reverse the other day when she was out. It has a manual transmission with about 80k miles on it.

She states that all other gears work just fine but that when she tries to put it in Reverse, it will not go into gear - or in other words, will not allow her to move the shifter into the reverse gear - it's as though something is preventing her from pulling it all the way down into Reverse gear.

I've tried doing some searching for this issue but have not come up with anything definitive...the closest I got in my search was others discussing how a grommet/eyelet on the end of a shift cable link may be broken.

Figured I'd ask the community here for some possible reasons why someone would be physically prevented from shifting the knob into the reverse gear.

Thanks in advance.

Default Re: 2004 Saturn Vue - Will Not Shift into Reverse - Manual Transmission

It did happen to me once a couple of years ago on my 06 Vue.

It did turn out to be the the "Shift Adjuster" which is plastic.
The part seems to not last forever as it should.
It will wear out. I bought the part from a local GM dealership for $33.
Then I removed the old one, put the new one in.
Done.
I saved $250 as a local car service place quoted me.

It's easy to check by removing the stick shift console cover.

Hope this helps.
