Default 93' SC2 Rack & Pinion Steering replacement...

Hey all,

I'm trying to get my SC2 back on the road this weekend and to do that I need to put my re-manufactured rack & pinion steering unit in.

To do that I need to bleed the whole system or I void the warranty.

What I need to know is which hose is the pressure line and which one is the return, and which one goes in where in the steering unit.

I hope to get response to this soon so that I can get this in and installed this weekend.

Thanks in advance out there for everyone's help on this.

...

Just put a reference mark on one of the hoses, then remember which port on the rack you took it out of. I was trying to remember if the fittings on the rack are a different size so it would be impossible to put them in wrong, I'm not sure though.

They are different-you can't put them on the wrong way.

Ok, this is all great news, but it does not answer the other question as to which one is the pressure line and which one is the return line.

I'm asking this as the directions for refilling the rack has the return line flowing into a container till it is clear before reconnecting to the rack.

Any and all help here is always appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

The pressure line is the one with the metal crimping on the flex lines where they joint to metal lines.

Look between the intake manifold and the back of the power steering pump, see the rubber hose with hose clamp securing it to the pump, that's the return line.

Well needless to say the steering rack is back in the car and operational. The car is still on the jack stands as I still have to push in a new wheel bearing for my slightly used steering knuckle.

I tried following the manufacturers directions to bleed the rack and such, but it did not go very well. I wound up having fluid leaking out so I stopped and hooked up both hoses and tried it that way instead. It squealed at first until fluid started flowing but then all was well with the world.

As I'm typing here I realized what I did wrong, but as the directions did state, I could do what I finally wound up doing any way.

Once I get the drivers side knuckle back on and the car lowered, I'll remove some of the fluid as I put too much in.

Any ways, I'm done for now in more ways than one.

Thanks again to all that aided me in this endeavor.
