Note that there is "GUARANTEED Credit Approval" so some poor slob can get his butt in debt for an overpriced car. What a wonderful Dealer!

... When you put the word "Guaranteed" in a car ad (and in bold type on the front license plate) maybe it should actually benefit the buyer and be in reference to the condition of the car or the way you'll be treated by the dealer if you have a problem in the future.

This one is pretty beat up, and the seller does not misrepresent it. But the bottle of Jack in the passenger seat really puts this one in a whole new class:

The center dash is all torn apart, there are a bunch of white wires in the engine compartment which 1 of those wires is running out of the engine bay to the outside. The hood is all beat up and looks like the original battery.

Wasn't sure whether to put this in the Deal of the Day or this thread... could be both - possible deal for Grand Rapids. Leather seats + desparate to sell.

This is a great car for a mechanic who can swap or repair the engine. I was told by the mechanic that the timing belt went out. Strange however as it was driven home and would just not start. Anyway it has a great trans, leather bucket seats, great body, NEW tire, Good brakes, exhaust.

Basically all in great shape but has an engine issue. Was a daily driver until it quit in the driveway. $650.00 or best offer. I need this gone by the weekend.

Seriously, the only bonehead part lies in listening to a moron or fraud mechanic.

Unless there really is a deep issue and it's an elaborate seller smokescreen. If it truly is as good as it looks and is described it'd be a reasonable buy even with a needed engine.

So many think these cars have timing belts. GM rarely uses belts over chains unless the engine wasn't designed by them.

The only one I can think of today is Chevy's 1.8L in the Cruze and Sonic which is from Deawoo Korea I believe.

I don’t really know the politics around it, but post-bankruptcy GM had Daewoo design that engine. Wikipedia talks a little about it below.

“Underpinned by the front-wheel drive GM Delta II platform, GM has confirmed the Cruze development program occurred under a global design and engineering team. The Company said GM Daewoo in South Korea played a leading role in the design and engineering of the Cruze.”

GM and Daewoo have been tied together for at least 10 years. Daewoo had a major role in the design of the Sonic and the Aveo before that.

Now those 1.6L Aveo engines are pretty bad in terms of reliability and I hope the 1.8L Sonic's don't share the same fate. I see almost no Aveo’s out on the road still and that should tell you something when I still see 1st generation S series on the road at a ratio of about 2-3 a day!

Korea loves their timing belts and they even thought it was a great idea to make the tensioner completely out of plastic. I’ve worked on 2 of them. One only had 70k miles before the cheap plastic tensioner took a dump and ruined the engine. I’m sure everyone appreciates their timing chain on their S series
