^^^^ Steering wheel needs some centering and cleaning (assuming seller opened the door and took that 'nice' interior shot right after cropping the nose and tail off with the first shot).

It may be a typo and he meant an SL 4000 (since '2000' lost its caché 13 years ago).

Judging by the driver's seat wear, it has over 120k, Watson, and looking at the price we can assume the seller is a bonehead.

not an S-Series but it's a Saturn and a Bonehead...

http://seattle.craigslist.org/sno/cto/4042418281.html

"I had a few mechanics look at it, and most is cosmetic damage. The engine and frame are still in good standing, the engine simply need to be pulled forward by someone mechanically savvy."

Admittedly this car Might be fixable depending on just how much damage actually was done to internals but the posted pictures don't look at all like "mostly cosmetic damage" and if the engine has been smote hard enough to "need to be pulled forward" it's likely over all damage is far from minor.

Hope springs eternal and there's a Sucker born every Minute.

I love when sellers claim how “easy” everything is to fix, but they won’t lay a finger on it even it doubled the sale price if it was in working condition.

Check engine light is on, but it’s a $10 fix blah blah blah. Fine, then you fix it for $10 and relist the car. Or “just do a quick engine swap” and it will run perfect. My ass it will…

That looks like a 'Total' to me...

"the engine simply need to be pulled forward by someone mechanically savvy."

Just pull the engine forward - how hard could that be? Get some string and tie it around the engine, tie the other end to a doorknob and slam the door real quick!

This is the exceedingly rare (in fact hitherto unknown) 95 Homecoming Model, no sign of Homecoming Edition embroidered mats, can't really tell if the badges are black or red, text claims to have rear headrests but they don't show in any pictures. The actual 94 HE had leather/cloth seats; at least they don't make that claim. Wheels look like standard Gen2 SL2 alloys. And of course, the paint is Not Pearl White...

Price might not be too far out of line for a decent lowish miles SL2 but it makes me suspicious when deceptive claims are made.

Has red badges and sawtooth wheels no way this can be a homecoming edition.

Absolutely not a homecoming car Nor does it have ABS, foglights or teardrop wheels. At least they got the model year right. It is indeed a 1995.

mmkay, this is an SOHC so it's an SL or SL1, not SL2. Maybe she wishes she was an SL2? Those gold wheels are just ugly IMO but tastes vary.

One does wonder why they explicitly state "Used car, as is." since that's pretty much the law in our state for private sales. We didn't really think a 1996 was going to be New...and why is the lid off the underhood fuse box in one picture? Also there's a carrying handle sticking up from the battery like maybe it was just set in there? Hmmm? Broke it, didn't you!

Maybe if the owner had put a little more money into repairs and maintenance and less into intake, spoiler, painting the valve cover and alloy wheels she could continue being "cheap reliable car."

okay, maybe the writer meant the alloy wheels are from 98 because the SL2 is definitely not. One owner? One owner since the last one I guess. The original owner likely would not forget when they bought the car...

Otherwise maybe not a terrible deal tho the temporary license in the back window might indicate it just came into the state, or it's been on blocks for a long time.

Based on the wheels (12 slot/Sawtooth) and the interior; this is a 94 SL2. Those wheels were only offered on 94 and 95 models and the dash is Gen1. The 95 had the Gen 1.5 interior.

thanks Trottida. What I thought I saw was #7 98-99 4-Spoke 16-Slot but must admit Saturn alloy wheels have always confused me.

Doesn't help when the picture quality is as usual for CL.

In which case there's no excuse for the ad poster not knowing the year...not that there was.

yup, dark, out-of-focus, blurry, flare, horizontal verticals or vertical horizontals, pixellated, and that's the ones from "pro" dealer postings.

And yet, they always manage to avoid pictures showing normal high-wear areas esp. of interiors.

It is at least a nice clean looking '95 SL2 with a manual tranny to boot. I can see that there are no foglights, but how can you tell that there's no ABS? I know no TC switch, but wasn't the TC not available with manual trans cars? I know it wasn't in 1993 since I have ABS but no TC. No way to see that you have ABS other than the warning light on the dash when it's not working.

Traction control was available on manual transmission S Series in subsequent years. Not sure about 94 but definitely 95. It was paired with ABS so if you had one you had the other.

The easy way to see if it has abs is to look under the hood. ABS cars will have a big "thingamajig" attached to the side of the brake master cylinder. Non-abs cars will have only simple metal brake lines coming out the side of the master cylinder.

Another way to tell, at least up through 94 models, is to look for rear disc brakes, which only came with abs. For 95, though, you only got rear discs with SL2 and SC2 with abs. Other models had drums. AND starting in 99, they were all rear drum no matter what

ABS included traction control on manual trans cars starting with 1996 (1993 for automatics).

The easily visible under hood abs module was changed (I believe for gen 3?) to a different unit, and I'm not sure where it was mounted.

Lastly, the sure-fire way to tell if abs is present for ANY car is to turn the ignition key to "run", and look for the abs warning lamp on the dash. No light, no abs.

Aside from misnaming this SOHC as an SL2 this one doesn't raise too many flags beyond looking way clean for 216k as well as overpriced...until one notes the red Gen2 SOHC behind it in some pics with no wheel covers and hood ajar.

This one assembled by highgrading parts? Still might be a nice car depending on work and parts quality. Caveat Emptor.

Edit: Pretty sure those are 98-99 alloy wheels as well, probably swapped from the visible donor car.
