Default Horsepower Ratings

i noticed that the ecotech 2.2 engine in the l200 is shared by other gm platforms (grand-am, cavalier,etc.). however, the horspower ratings differ (135-150 hp.). could anybody technical explain this. is this due to insurance ratings? why did we get the short end of the stick?

could be due to specific tuning and packaging of the air box and other stuff. and what fuel economy they're aiming for.

Check the compression ratio too. It is lower in the L-series ECOTEC than in the VUE and other cars. Gives better fuel efficiency but less power. I'm sure there are other factors as well.

Idea

Other than different Air intake box design for Ecotech in non-Saturn cars, different route length and diameter of Exhaust system can easily yield 10-15HP gain/loss to the same motor.

Besides, what's the point to have same 'HP Rating' motor put into cars from different divisions?
