For those of us new to the wonderful world of auto repair I'm wondering if there are books on theory and/or practice that people have found useful. Thank you!

For general theory, I read Auto Fundamentals by Martin W. Stockel. I just checked it out from my university's library.
For A/C, I read Automotive Heating and Air Conditioning by Thomas Birch. You might also look at http://autoshop101.com/. For more specifics on repair itself, I've read a few Haynes manuals and the Saturn FSM. There are also tons of good video on Youtube nowadays where you can see how the repairs are done. Good luck! |

+1 on the Saturn Factory Service Manuals.
Reading threads here, watching Richpin06A videos are (in my opinion) way more valuable and practical than reading a book and learning repairs/knowledge base.
