Default Yellow oil substance

02 Vue 4 cyl. manual with 212,000 miles on it. Wife had the car this weekend and at some point the AC stopped working. Looked under the compressor side of the engine and I have a yellow oily liquid under there. Am i correct in assuming the compressor is shot? Oh compressor doesn't
come on when I hit the AC button. Compressor relay is good as i have switched it out with the rear wiper and it works when turned on.

Sounds like you have had a leak. I am not sure what the color of the dye is in the freon in your VUE.

Best bet is to take it to an AC shop. They can find the source of the leak.

You can read the sage advice of posters here (Fdryer) on trying to fix an AC with a DIY kit. It is not recommended.

It's the AC dye used to detect leaks. I found this on my '05 after I had the torque converter replaced under the campaign, and the dealer who did my torque converter says they can't find any leaks...

What timing.............

The AC oil is yellowish greenish in color (looks and feels like antifreeze (the older green kind))

The compressor may be fine.

As for the timing, I finally managed to search for my AC problem last night.

My high pressure hose had some oil yellowish oil on it, and glowed under UV light at the lowest point where the rubber part is crimped on to the solid part next to the compressor.

The hose connection at the compressor and the compressor itself were clean.

It looks like the oil flowed down the hose from where it's connected to the condensor.

Worst case is the connector cracked on the condensor and I need a new condensor (again, it cracked on the opposite side last time)

Then followed by the high pressure hose being cracked at the condensor.

Best case is that the seal let go at the condensor / hose.
