Default Is my clutch going? Hydraulics?

I have a 1999 Saturn SW with 248,000kms and just today (worked fine yesterday) in first gear it seems to be 'grabby' and rough, as well when I shift into 2nd or 3rd it seems to jerk like it slips then grabs really quick. I haven't changed anything in my shifting technique or anything... the car has been difficult to get into 1st gear at times since 100,000kms, the fluid has been changed with synthetic ATF which seemed to help a while ago.

Could this be a sign of the clutch going? the differential pin? hydraulics going?

Please help!!

Go to the how-to library and do Barnowl's hydraulic tests. Report your findings.

Difficulty shifting in to 1st gear when stopped and engine running is on one the symptoms of clutch hydraulics going bad. Creep when clutch pedal is all the way down is another that may occur. There is a fork movement test search threads, that can help diagnosis.

When mine went, it was leakage at the master cylinder, so adding fluid help for a short while (day or two while I got the hydraulics kit)..

If it's easy to shift into all gears with the engine off it's probably your clutch/pressure plate. Do the wire test to check out your hydraulics as rc mentioned above and tell us what you find out. This will start to identify what your problem is and how to fix it.
