Dazed Owning my shame…oil "stain" on my carpet…

I am going to own this and share my shame in the hopes that I can correct and recover from this "accident". I am attaching a picture that might make some weak-willed hurl and most veterans scream in anger.

Yes, I was that dumb/stoopid to let this happen.

Now I want to get other's opinions on what I can use to get this crap out. I have plans for somethings that I have read on other threads:
* Baking Soda *Manually scrapping *Dawn detergent *Carpet Cleaning Machine *Spot Shot *Simple Green.

Possibly in that order.

(And yes, I like using Smilies )

Consider using a Dry Cleaning Solvent (I use Guardsman brand) as a last resort if nothing else seems to get the oil totally out.

I've had decent luck with saturating stains like this with a strong solution of Simple Green and hot water and letting it soak for hours. You can put some old rags on top of it to absorb the oil residue that's lifted off. No discoloration of the carpet dye from what I could see.

Power washing of the rear passenger mat could also help after treatment. In general, this seems to help clean them anyway.

I have an SW2, and 2-3 times over the years opened bottles of engine oil have tipped over in the back of my Saturn and then oozed out. Fortunately, I bought a rubber cargo mat from WeatherTec when I bought the car new, so that averted a disaster. That said, I always store oil in heavy duty polyethylene bags now.

Let us know what works.

I would use Dawn dish soap, water, and a shopvac.

I'd call it rust protection and move on!
