Default Trouble codes PO 411 & 440

The dealer tech says he found the air pump to be faulty. Anyone know what it does & is it covered under emissions warranty. Dealer says no & wants $290.00 to replace. It is a 2006 ION. Please help Thanks Doug mileage on vehicle is 70,000

Well, what were you having problems with in the first place?

I had heard of a vacuum pump for some cars in association with the brakes, but I don't know if the Ions need them or not. I would guess so, but I am still learning.
