may i ask what the R12 is for? Anyway, if anybody did have R12 they'd probably sell them for quite a bit of money, as R12 is expensive.

I remember that R-12 was almost impossible to get when I was still in the USN [2004] for vital equipment that needed it and couldn't be converted to R-134a.
Of course you're looking for a small amount, but shipping will be a problem. Where are you?

I used the last can that I had squirreled away four years ago on my daughters car. I had about a dozen saved away when it was banned. She finally needs another charge and I am not even sure I still have the filler hose anymore either. She is also 700 miles away in LA now.
Ebay is a waste of time since they require a special "certificate" to pimp for people selling old stock. I though I would give it a try. Thanks anyway!!

Actually, all you need is an EPA section 609 ceritification. You can take the test online and they will send you a card, or at least that's how used to be. Cost me about $25.
I can go into Napa or Autozone today and buy cans of R-12 provided I have my card on me. It's about $18 for a 12oz. can. If you were closer I wouldn't mind helping you out but as another poster alluded to...shipping is not such a good idea. Some shops will pay you to recover the R-12. Venting it to the atmosphere is not only a bad idea, but also illegal. Any reputable shop will reclaim it free of charge just out of the environmental aspect of it. You do know that you can have the system evacuated, serviced, and recharged with what you took out? I have an old A/C compressor I used for a pump and an old helium tank. I've literally pumped it out of the car into the tank (propane tanks have check valves in them to prevent refilling)...replaced the compressor...and pumped it back in. You lose a few oz. but it's better than buying 3 more cans of the stuff. |

just use 134a, it is a direct drop in over the r-12, same oil base, less cfc's

R-134a is not a direct replacement in most cases, I have the EPA cert, and almost every time, it required an oil changeout and often a seal replacement.
