I found a good rebuildable used 1.9L twin cam engine for $150. It runs good, just uses excessive oil. I'm thinking about purchasing it and rebuilding it over the summer. I've never rebuilt an engine before, its on my bucket list! lol...I'm very detail oriented, so I want to do an awesome job, any input is greatly appreciated!

Read as much as you can before starting with the purpose of knowing what you are equipped to do and what you're going to have to hand off for a machine shop to do for you. Do you own mics, calipers or snap gauges? Might have to send parts off to be measured if you don't. Access to special tools? Can they be rented locally? The average guy probably has tools enough to to assembly work but you should consider when it is better / cost effective to hand some components off for inspection / reworking. Then you can reassemble the nice shiny new bits together in your garage. Not knowing what's in your shop makes it hard to know. Here's one bit of advice. If you have a hone toss it directly into the trash and ignore anyone who advises you to use one.

Hello, To stop the oil issue you have to drill six oil return holes in the oil control ring lan/grove if your still able to use the stock pistons. There is a Youtube video on how to do that. If you want new standard size piston or need to bore the block for over sized pistons they already have the oil control holes in them. Rick

Check out DoSumpthin 's Youtube channel. He did a rebuild of a DOHC engine and there are some videos of drilling oil holes and the timing chain replacement.
