Default Sky Advertisement and Marketing Direction

I wanted to create more discussion on types of marketing and advertisement Saturn should use for their new models, so I'm creating this new thread.

This is something I threw together this evening with iMovie. Gotta love Macs! It took me two hours to download the photos, crop and resize them, and create the movie (including learning the program, which I had never used before). Macs are so... easy!

Do you think this is a direction Saturn should take? How does it effect their core competitency of customer service? What types of advertisement should be spawed off of this to protray the entire brand image?

Sky Ad

My idea is that an ad such as this should begin a couple months before the Sky hits retailers. The tagline will read "Coming Month, 2006. I just don't know what month that will be yet! I think the public has low expectations for Saturn products, and the absense of any brand identification will get people interested in the car without preconcieved notions. When the Sky is released, another, upbeat and exciting ad with the same theme will let people know that it's a Saturn. There is a risk, however, that people will see the ads, be interested in the car, but never find out what it is. This is where Saturn needs to hit the market hard with advertisements once it is released.

Very nice spencer! Although I have never had anything good to say about quicktime, it is a very nice short and it takes all the main points of the sky in one. Tastefully well done.

I love quicktime! I hope you aren't suggesting I do it in Windows Media format... Media Player is the absolute worst player I've ever used.

RealPlayer is my favorite, but I don't think I have anything that will convert to that format.

PS I fixed the original link. I didn't export the file correctly.

Good work. I liked it, although the music was lacking a little something for me.

A word on Quicktime and Realplayer (really don't want to change the thread). Realplayer I stopped using when they began their sneaky marketing tactics during install. (Placing checked items out of the scrollable window so people would think they weren't subscribed to anything). Quicktime I used to enjoy. Unfortunately they now inject their plugins into Firefox and it usurps my MP3 streams. They don't label their plugins properly nor ask you which ones to install. So my only option was to destroy quicktime on the machine. It's a lot of extra work a user should never have to go through. I don't particularly like the bundling of iTunes and QuickTime now either.

The music was a demo sample from my keyboard (the musical kind). It was getting late so I just went in iTunes and found something real quick.

The more I watch the ad the more I don't like it for some reason. lol

I work in marketing and (compose, perform and produce music for TV Spots)I say that you have a very solid idea here.
Actually I thought the music fit, kind of like, something wonderous is about to happen, like in the movie "2001 A Space Oddessey"

I was going to compose some original music for it, but I didn't feel like taking the time. I haven't setup any of my recording equipment since I moved. I was in a band for five years (I play keyboards). Every once in awhile, during boring times at work, I think of the fun band trips for out-of-town gigs. Our busiest time was 12 gigs in 10 weeks (and we were all in school at the time), and none of them were local. When we started noticing groupies, I had a feeling like I was one of the coolest guys in the world. Then I realized that it was only the 14 year old girls that thought so...

But anyway, my point being that I enjoy music and creative things. After doing that ad I had a calm feeling, and I realized that I haven't had a creative outlet in a long time.

Someday I want to quit my job, join a band, and go on tour. You only live once!

As for Windows Media Player... how can you like something that has a confusing interface lifted from Star Trek and acid-trip images that make you want to go play with a Barbie? RealPlayer functions flawlessly for me, and has the best interface of anything I've used. Except Apple's stuff... but Quicktime isn't meant to be a full function player like RealPlayer. Quicktime and iTunes together do the job. And quite well I might ad.

Is it ok to hijack your own thread?

You need to end it with a scene of the car flying down the road... (tee-hee; please note extra strong sarcasm).

Nice work Spencer. Hopefully there will be some brief clips of a Sky being driven soon and that way you can throw them together with the still images. The music was fitting for the name of the car I thought. Nice and airy.

The more I see of the Sky, the more I am starting to like it better than the Solstice. I am currently a die-hard Miata guy. I have a black 2001 that I have done some suspension upgrades too as well as wheels, tires, intake, and exhaust. I can't wait to see a comparison of the Solstice, Sky, and new Miata later this year.

It is going to be a good year for fun little inexpensive roadsters and I doubt you will go wrong picking any of them.

That would be good too play in movie theaters, get people talking and wondering "What IS that car???" Flashing a few stats would be good too. One suggestion would be for there to be suddenly some louder music or just the engine, and a SKY is "shown" driving down the road (quickly of course) and shifting, engine going, etc.

Just my thoughts.
