Default Trying to get to 180-220 Hp

I'm trying to get my 2005 Saturn Ion quad Coupe up into the 180 to 220 horsepower range I'm looking at spending anywhere between 1,200 to 1800 over the next year so so I was going to see what I can do you know simple bolt on wise or simple swaps to get there. Thanks in advance.

Stock '05's 140hp? Redlines fully loaded, 241hp? Maybe a member or three can have some info on some mods otherwise a Ion Redline is your answer for factory hp with a supercharger.

Yea I don't want to spend the money on a redline. Every time I see one its being sold for an absurd amount of money at least to me. Most of the one's I've seen in my state are in the 4k range for high mileage ones with some damage and 6500-9k for good condition ones with 60-90k

About that, one advantage of the ion 3 is it's a 2.2 liter vs the redline's 2. It's convenient having a chopper right out the factory but with some elbow grease the 2.2 can really turn out. This setup is very easy to turbo, also within this budget if the cards are played right. I wouldn't jump to the redline, I'd make the most of the 2.2 eco

I dont think he will be able to turbo his car with $1200-1800. turbocharger itself would eat half that, maybe more.

I am a bit curious about N/A Power mods for this engine, gonna go look into that.

Default Re: Trying to get to 180-220 Hp

I've seen Ion Redline's for under $1000, you just have to keep your eyes open and act fast. I found one for $700 not running with 40k miles on it, but it disappeared pretty damn fast.
The good thing about the RL's is that they are built for boost, and can be turbo charged to make 300+ hp all day.

Are the 2.2 Ecotecs built for boost, ie, forged engine internals?

Apparently the 2.2L has cast internals.

Thinking about it, the ION lvl 3 was produced in the later years with a 2.4L. 170 hp stock. That engine was placed in midsize sedans so in the somewhat lighter ION, it should be a fun ride. You could look for one of those.

Cams and head porting? i mean you would think the DOHC cylinder head as is would be able to flow decent but maybe they sacrificed good flow for a cheap/rough casting. hard to say without seeing the intake port. slightly off topic attached is cylinder head flow i did for a intek 206 before/after porting. Y axis is CFM and X is valve lift.

aside from being cheap i dont think the intake/throttle body is worth much either. intake seems like it has a small plenum volume.

It is on the high side and would go over a bit depending on how you set it up and do a tune.

$2k is a lot for 4 psi of boost as per one of the reviews on there.

That was the limits of that car but depending on the tuner they should be able to get more out of it if your car can handle it and has supporting mods that can flow better.
