Default Removing the key from the ignition

I discovered on accident the other day that I can remove my key from the ignition while it is in any position. Does anybody else have this "problem" ?

As a test, I tried turning the key to lock and removing it, and then attempting to start the car with a screwdriver, which didn't work, so for now it seems it's at least still safe.

Same thing happens with my car, not a redline though, sc2000.
No clue why.

it could be either because the "cut" of your key is too smooth or because there is a problem with the tumbler

Might be covered under warranty. How many miles? We replace ignition lock cylinders up here all the time in the L car and Ions. I actually stock 5 lock cylinder kits for the Ion.

Most of my older cars do the same thing due to being worn. It's never caused any problems. It's actually come in handy a couple times. Don't have to listen to that infernal buzzer/bell while it's running and the door is open.

In most cases it is due to a worn key. Try using a spare key, or get one cut at your dealer (maybe $5), and try it again. If it still does it, it's a problem with the lock cylinder.
