Default 92-93 block 97 head?

Ok, SO I have a question. Will a 92-93 block that was originally sohc 8v with dished pistons work with a newer 97 dohc head? Plus I was reading that there was a restrictor plug in the oil gally going to the head does that need to be removed in order to usea newer style head gasket....? Please help I hate saturns.... and you guys know more than me...

I'm not sure about the '93 but, I don't think the '92 will work. The '97 PCM won't work with the reluctor on the '92 crankshaft. The '93 PCM won't work with the linear EGR valve on the '97 head. There are adapters that will take adapt a head that took a vacumn operated EGR take an electronically operated one but, I'm not certain they'll work the other way.

...

It depends, if it is a 92 or a 93. The reluctor ring on the crank is different 91-92 from 93-02

Yes. You need to remove the plug. The head gasket is designed to contol the oil pressure to the head.

I used a 94 block with a 96 head in my 96 SL2

The car is originally a dohc but there are holes in the block I want to use this unknown year sohc block with the original 96 dohc head but I think the valves may hit the pistons

Unknown sohc block

96 Dohc head

I think others have put D O H C heads onto blocks with dish pistons,
the engine is of the interference type regardless of the piston design.
your big IF is ,is this block 93 up ,the reluctor on 91-92 won't work!
on the 93 up setup ,you could put a newer crank in ,and GO
