Well I have a problem right now. I own a 92 SL2 and all 3 of the studs of the Torque Axis Mount broke in the timing chain cover. I don't kny why it happened maybee i didn't tighten the bolts enough when i replaced it last year. Anyone have any ideas on how to get them out?
My other idea is to put the 91' engine mount system on my car (since it didn't have the tourque axis mount). Would this work? |

Did they shear off flush with the block?

You'll have to carefully drill into the center of each bolt and use an extractor to remove them.

![]() As I've mentioned before, I took the after-market off, and replaced it with a dealer unit. The OEM unit slipped on perfectly.

you are lucky, in that your transmission bellhousing has vestigial mounting holes for the lower "shock absorber" 91 style mount. You would have to study a 91 subframe particularly the sub-radiator crossmember to see if this is feasible. And something's gonna need welding.
![]() And don't forget the other mounts are different on 91 as well, like the lower mounts. |

OK, I got everything fixed now. I used the extractor. I got one stud out with a cold engine and the other two out with a warm engine (it seemed alot easier with a warm engine).
Now here is how they broke... I got the part from auto-zone I stopped tightening down the nuts when i felt decent resistence. I didn't realize i hat to tighten them down quite a bit more still. I few monthes later all the studs broke. I guess the one from the saturn dealer would of had a better fit. I made shure everything was nice and tight this time. thanks for the help! |
