2005 VUE 3.5L
Idea AWD engagement

I know that this subject has been talked about over and over and everyone is probably tired of it, so, please, don't cut my head off. Some people say tha the engagement of their AWD on the '05 is slow and others llike me say it's pretty quick. I wonder if it has anything to do with production date. I don't know the exact month of mine (too hot to go out and look) but I know it was made in 2004 because the in-service date was 12-24-2004. I wonder if earlier productions got a different RDM (faster) the later ones. Anyone else have any insight on this?

And if we due have the earlier production RDMs, are we do for failure later down the road?

My 05 V6 AWD Vue was built 10/2004. The AWD engages instantly and apparently has done so for five winters now. I refreshed RDM fluid at 35K ... it looked a bit funky but wasn't burnt up.

2003 VUE 3.0L
Default Re: AWD engagement

The early VUEs had a RDM design that was engaged after a little bit of front wheel slip. The RDM was modified (2005?) to keep the unit from engaging (when doing a tight turn in a parking lot, and getting the RDM growl). I read on these pages a different "spring" was put in the RDM to delay the engagement of the RDM.

I've got 110,000 on my VUE. Did the RDM fluid change at the 100Kmile service. I've had no problems.

I don't really go "offroad". The only time I know the AWD engages is in the snow or on a really slick road.
