Your thinking is correct.

Regardless of which tire you choose in the end remember not only is the odometer slightly off, but the speedometer is as well. Go to know if you go through radar or something.

You can use one of these to quickly figure out the difference.

Tire Size Calculator

Something else to keep in mind is to use the correction factor if you figure your MPG, or for oil change intervals, etc. I run slightly taller than stock tires, and I just use the correction factor in my MPG spreadsheet so I have accurate miles driven and MPG calculations.

I just may go the 195/60 route after all... On the Michelin Pilot Exalto A/S, I'd be paying $116 a tire for the 195/55, compared to $100 a tire for the 195/60.
195/60 look at the Bridgestone Potenza Pole Position
I have the BF Goodrich Radial T/A now
can't wait till they wear out the only tire I've been
highly impressed with is the
Bridgestone Potenza Pole Position
the best tires I have ever owned.
everything I wanted from a tire but treadlife and
snow traction is not outstanding just slow down
still better then most all season"s and once the roads become a sloppy mess the great wet performance really shows
Put these on my parents car as it was scary when it rained like night and day how it made the car feel

I used 195/55R15 Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 Star Spec tires on my 2002 Saturn SC2 in the past and they were awesome.

Well, I called up a local dealer today, and after all the work, he said he's having trouble finding anyone with Michelin Pilot Exalto A/S tires. A few places in the area have 1 or 2, but no one has 4. He says that he thinks they may be discontinued soon.

... After all that? ... Really?

Discontinued tires are the best deal! I'm sure you can find them on eBay.

That exact thought made me happy right after I considered it.

I gave Michelin a call, and the guy basically said that they don't make every tire all the time, and that the AS line is being used to make another tire. Coming up in May, the AS will be made again, and there is no foreseeable discontinuation of that tire.

The guy at the local Ford Dealer (not a gouging chain, a 1 family shop) said that places in the area have 1 or 2, but no one has 4, so I could still certainly get them, but they wouldn't arrive until well after the Buy 3 Get 1 promotion ends.

He also said that their place, as well as others, have them on backorder, so they'll be in soon, but not soon enough. It looks like I'll be waiting until another promotion comes up.

(In other news, a local Firestone guy quoted me almost $600 for the Wide Oval Indy 500s, from start to finish. Then he quoted me some 'house tire' at around $400... I think I'll stick to the Michelins. I told him about the Indy 500s on TireRack.com, and he basically told me that he couldn't match that price. It's only $84...)

Thought about them, but having worked at Walmart, knowing what I know about their tires, I wouldn't ever buy them myself. Some tires are good and happen to be cheap. Walmart tires are made cheap to be cheap. For example, they have a Goodyear tire that's not actually made in a Goodyear plant - just branded by them.

My hunt continues...

Ah, ok. You scared me, I thought these were the Wallyworld-Only tires. I didn't give them a look at first. The Bridgestones actually do look like decent tires. I'm liking the price and quietness for sure. Since the tread life is 40k, and I'd only use them in the Summer, I'd like to think they'd last me twice as long as that. The car only has 65k on it as-is, so even with half that amount as the rated tread life, they'd last me quite a while. Thanks for the suggestion!

On TireRack, they got an 8.1 out of 10. The issue is they come in 195/60s and not 195/55s. I could deal with that though, I suppose. They look like great tires, just not my preferred size. They're certainly second on my list now if I decide to bump up to the 60s instead of the 55s. The Goodyear ComforTread is definitely top for me in the 60s.
