Default So I have a '11 Malibu...

For a rental. And I've noticed a couple of changes. First and foremost, they finally moved the location of the side view mirror adjustment switch from the A pillar flag to the door. I might have to order a new switch cover and A pillar flag blank. Only problem is, I don't believe the Malibu comes in a beige interior. Might be worth looking into if you have a grey or black interior.

I've noticed they've removed the "auto up" feature from the driver side power window, only auto down.

They have also made some changes to the seats and seatbelts. The LT1 (base) I have has lumbar support which I wish my Aura had.

Looks like the "plastic" housing where the side airbag has been deleted and now "pops" out of the stitching/fabric. A tag that says "airbag" indicates there is one.

Take note of the new funky seat belt lower anchors. There are also new buckles that remind me of old school seat belts.

One final thing I've noted is that the Malibu suspension sounds/feels so much better than my Aura's. Which I don't understand because it is the SAME setup. Feels more solid and refined, so I wonder what new/revised suspension hardware was introduced for 2011?

EDIT: I guess these changes were part of the 2010 change. For 2011, they are getting rid of:

Homelink & dimming side view mirrors. TapShift paddle shifters are gone and now have a +/- toggle switch on the side of the shifter.

The Aura does have lumbar( at least mine does). It is a manual handle vs the electric one in the Malibu pictured.

Never been in an Aura with beige interior. Is the triangular trim piece the mirror controls attaches to beige as well? Even if the Malibu has the same colors as the Aura, the triangular pieces isn't a replaceble part. You'd need to buy the entire door panel, cut that piece and epoxy it to the Aura panel. Not a difficult thing to do, but not worth the $$$$ for the panel.

Do the '11 Malibus with black interiors have black switch panel covers for the window/lock/mirror controls?

This would be a cool modification to do if you adjust the mirrors a lot. No one else drives my Aura, so my mirror positions havent changed since the day I bought the car. I do plan on adding illuminated rear window controls and illumated rear door latch cups like on the front doors. I have all the parts, just need to get off my butt and do it.

I need to check car-parts.com for 2010 Malibus. I just remembered that my window switch panel is black, so a black Malibu panel would be a direct swap. Just need to unbolt the switches and swap so the illumination and auto up/down remain. Also need to see if the connection is the same. I'm sure it would be easy to rewire if need be.

Something to check into would be the interior illumination colors. Our switches lights are orange, I doubt the Malibu is the same.

Correct, Malibu is green. So you need to unscrew the switches and swap.

Or see if you can buy just the panel and mirror controls. It would suck to buy a $120 part and only need $15 of it.

One of the few nitpiks I have of my 09 is that the seat belt anchors aren't higher. With the plush seat covers I use it's hard to find the anchor. Especially when you're in the habit of not belting up until you're underway. There is probably an extension available that would raise it.

Another neat feature the Malibu has is press down on the turn stalk (not fully) and the turn indicator flashes three times for lane changes. Hmmm, probably a switch right in the stalk, another swappable item.

I could swear that it makes absolutely no sense to do that "swap", if it even is one. Even my 99 SL2 had partial activation when held. Hell, I think my 89 S15 SC 4x4 had it...and I'm positive the 84 Firebird has it.

It's not partial activation. I too can hold down the stalk on my Aura and it will flash without fully depressing it. Once I let go, the signal stops.

On the Malibu, all you have to do is quickly press it down and let it go. It continues to flash for three cycles for lane changes. I've had several other rentals with this feature; Chrysler comes to mind as well as some German makes.

Oh, and I didn't even realize that my Aura had lumbar support! Found the knob last night.

Im willing to be that its not a mechanical part that does that. But programming in the BCM.

No. It's a safety feature. Lazy is not using your signal at all.

About as lazy as:

--Hitting a couple buttons with your thumbs instead of reaching twelve inches to the right to adjust the volume or station presets on the radio.

--Pushing a button to roll up or down the windows.

--Pushing a button to unlock the doors instead of using the key.

--Putting the transmission into drive instead of shifting it manually.

--Hitting a button to maintain constant speed instead of pushing the accelerator pedal with your foot.

--Pushing buttons to make seat adjustments instead or using levers or knobs.

--Pushing buttons top make mirror adjustments instead of leaning over and making adjustments by hand.

--Tire pressure displayed on a screen instead of checking it with a tire pressure gauge.

Im sure the features in the listed above were considered "lazy" at one point as well. Now most people can't live without them.

That is why most every new vehicle has the automatic lane-change indication feature. It is a safety feature no matter how much you want to argue the fact. How many times have you seen Grandpa heading down the highway with his indicators on? The point is you want your hands free to drive, and nothing makes it easier than these "one touch - do it automatically" features.
