Mitsubushi to copy SC series Saturn?

Quote:
The jockeying for attention at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit in January is well under way.

Mitsubishi on Tuesday said it would show a coupe concept--maybe a preview of the next Eclipse--with the Concept-RA, at the Detroit show.

The concept will have plastic body panels mounted to an aluminum spaceframe. That spaceframe is a combination of extruded pieces and die-cast sections.

Under the plastic hood is a 2.2-liter, 16-valve, four-cylinder turbodiesel engine with piezoelectric fuel injectors. Among the wizardry is variable valve timing and a turbocharger with variable vane technology, for more oomph at low rpm. Mitsubishi says the engine is rated at 201 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque.
For the chassis, Mitsubishi has raided the Lancer Evolution parts bin. The Concept-RA gets the six-speed, dual-clutch, automated manual transmission from the Evo. Helping to keep the wheels planted is the Super All-Wheel Control system, which bolsters the basic traction- and stability-control units with active steering and active damping systems.

BAH HUMBUG, plastic cars should be no more than 6in. in length, with a wind up motor to scoot across the kitchen floor while junior learns to crash cars.

Did I mention that my 1999 SL2 still looks brand new? Can't understand it. The car does battle with SUV's in mall parking lots every day. And yet, not a single blemish on it's sides. NOT ONE!

There is really quite a bit of commanility of quality in vehicles today. Different manufactures buy parts from the same supplier, even from each other. I had a couple of Mitsus in the 80's they were ok. Right now I think they want too much for what you get. The same could be said for lots of vehicles.

It's a friggin' CONCEPT CAR, nothing more. Wow. Doesn't mean that that's how it will be built, if it is at all. Extruded aluminum spaceframe? Yeah, that'll make the car comparable price-wise to the SC's.

Igor, go to all the junk yards,[mind the dogs] and collect all the Saturn body side panels you can find. We're going to build a mitsustein monster car, and don't forget the aluminum paint for the space frame.

We'll never see it in plastic as a production car. It will be metal if it gets produced.
I park close if I can, far if I can't. Mostly I like spots where I can pull through so it's easier to get out. Don't care how my car looks really.

Mitsubishi....

I doubt we will ever see this car...even if we do, it probably won't look anything like this, and I would be highly surprised if they do stick to making it with "Plastic".

Wouldn't it be interesting if Mitsu decided to make a car completely out of Carbon-Fiber panels? All the ricers would have a field day with it then! That's for sure.
