Default My favorite websites for mods. A must for Newbies. (Yes, you, Madpowa)

I decided to post a list of websites that helped me get an idea for my mods. This kind of replaces the outdated sites on the Newbie sticky. Some of these sites have conflicting info, it's up to you to figure out which you believe, and ask people on here about their own experiences.

This was the first tech article I read for Saturns, and one of the most informative.
http://teamscr.com/techarticles2.html

Here are the SPS tech articles. They are all pretty informative.
http://www.spswebpage.com/tech/index...3149f58ba88df5

This guy is a regular on this forum, very knowledgeable
http://www.qksltwo.com/tech1.html

This is a page with a few calculators, like there's one where you put in your horsepower, and your vehicle weight. Not completely accurate, but it gives you an idea of what cars would be a good race.
http://www.geocities.com/motorcity/4601/hpcalc.html

Rob, another guy on this site, runs this one. A DIY'er, lots of good guides for those of us without a shop at our disposal.
http://www.therob.com/index.php

Some more how-to's
http://www.differentracing.com/tech_articles/index.html

Yes, it's a Honda site. But since lite rims are a good thing for Saturn performance, this is a handy guide to have on hand.
http://hondaswap.com/reference-mater...weights-28665/

Another regular on this forum, good DIY instructions. The weight reduction page is handy to know how much weight you're dropping. Use in conjunction with the free mods page on SPS.
http://www.evilplastic.com/

Here are some product sites I like. When I decide on something to buy, I check all these sites for who has it cheaper. Some are all Saturn parts, some have just a few.

http://www.spswebpage.com/store/inde...3149f58ba88df5
http://www.procarparts.com/index.asp
http://www.saturnmotorsports.com/
http://www.streetdesignauto.com/
http://www.sportcompactonly.com/perf...arts.aspx?c=27
http://www.importperformanceparts.ne...rtssaturn.html
http://www.andysautosport.com/saturn/1997_2000_sc/
http://www.summitracing.com/
http://www.jcwhitney.com
http://www.sfxperformance.com/
http://www.qksltwo.com/forsale.html <===== Great site, great prices.
http://gravanatuning.com/
http://www.ebay.com <=======most things are found on here for cheapest, if they are on here.

Some cheap/free mods are listed here. Just do a search in the how-to's on this site to find instructions.

quad-beam headlight conversion <==== When you turn your high's on, the lows stay on

hidden antenna <==== I like this. Gets rid of the akwardly placed antenna..

manual fan switch <==== You can turn your fan on when you want. Helps with the problem of the fan turning on at such a high temp.

Change the lights in the dash to a different color - PM me for 2nd gen. directions

Disable DRL's <==In case you want your high-beams to last a while... the drl's kill bulb life

Chop off a few inches of your shifter... you now have a short throw!

Intake resonator removal <===makes it sound a bit better

Change your ECTS! One of the best mods...

And remember... check your damn oil!!!

Okay, I think that is everything. Feel free to add on your favorite sites, I'm always looking for more.

...
If I wanted ride quality, I would drive a Cadillac. If I wanted to be a sheep, I would drive something that says Vtec on the side of it...

This does nothing to the throw, it only takes off from the height of the shifter.

So basically, this would be called a short shifter, not a short throw.

but your hand is moving a shorter distance, so it is a shorter throw. think about it.

You understand that the shift lever has a pivoting point. Cutting down the shift height does nothing to the pivot point. So the throw is still the same.
When you cut down the height of the shift lever, your making a "Short Shifter", not a "Short Throw".

Throw refers to the distance the shifter moves below the pivot point. It has nothing to do with the distance the shift handle moves above the pivot point. While your hand moves less, it does not make it a short throw shifter. Just a short shifter.

To elaborate, "throw" refers to the angle of the arc the shifter makes to actuate a gear change. The only way to get the cable to move its full travel with less shifter travel (in arc degrees) is, as RR hints, to increase the distance between the pivot point and the point where the cable attaches. If you do this, even if you don't chop anything off the top of the shifter, you'll find the shifter sweeps less of an angle fore-to-aft (a true "short throw"). Chopping some off the top, of course, enhances the effect (but it's only an enhancement). Like any other mod, you get out of it what you put into it.

Haha. Sorry, I meant short shift, not short throw. It was late. It was worth it, though, just for the little debate you guys had.

The DRL mod is easy, 5 min job. Search for DRL disable and you will find the drawings and pictures. I do not know if the 98 SC2 will accept the antenna trick. You can search for that also and there are pictures also.

At some point I will be getting around to hiding my antenna. If it won't go in the a-pillar, I know of 2nd gen coupe guys that have hidden it inside the fender, so there's options.

I have a 2nd gen coupe, and the antenna fit in my a pillar just fine. Search for phantom antenna, maybe.

2019 checking in. Yes, the links are dead, the city is a ghost town, performance part availability has reached post apocalyptic levels, but the information in this thread is still useful.

I'd like to thank everyone that has ever participated in this forum for compiling such a compendium of information for a new Saturn owner.

And thanks to the administrators for not letting this place fall into the memory hole.
