Very rare. Sometimes can be found on ebay for $70-150. However you can make your own 'short shifter' by removing the knob, using a dremel, saw, or cutting tool and cut off a couple inches, then put a shift knob back on. This will give you a shorter shift (not shorter throw) but still have the cooler appearance rather than having a giant stick coming from the floor.

Look for user VMS150 on here over at 6S. He makes a true short shifter.

I cut 3 inches off my shifter LOL I'm going to have to get pics of it but it looks hell nice now and the throws are a little cleaner than sloppy.

How do you remove the "shift knob"? Is it a press fit where you just pull hard?

To remove the knob just pull hard it will come right off.Now if you do not have the strength to do so you can try this method below.

Thanks Richpin, another great video. Question though, after cutting off shift rod do you just push down leather boot? I'm tempted to remove console so I can see how boot is mounted onto shifter. I cut off about an inch but it seems knob is just riding on top of boot.

it's shorter at the pivot point so the shifts aren't as sloppy

Actually, it's longer BELOW the pivot point, so there's more cable movement for a given amount of angular movement of the shifter, and thus less angular travel (throw) of the shifter to move it from gear to gear.

That's what I meant to say, like in our case, our pivot point would have to be lowered

No, in ANY case, the pivot point has to be RAISED.

I love short throws. I had one on my R/T.. it was much more fun with it.
I'd just have to get my pressure plate replaced and I'd probably actually be able to engage first gear with a short throw :P

I think with a 1st gen shifter it's the same way with staples, but instead of the boot being trapped between the shifter and console like your 2nd or 3rd gen in the pic it's clipped in from the top. At least my '93 was anyway...stupid clips broke so now the boot flops a bit all the time.

On my 96 sl2 I the boot was being held by a plastic clip on the top, I ended up putting my 30mm deep well over shifter and pounded it down till the clip broke. Maybe a better way but it worked for me.
Noticed the SouthEast Clutch box in photo. Curious if it was any good. I was shipped one by mistake and they didn't want it back. |

I have one short throw shifter left if anyone is looking for one.
Here's the Craigslist link but don't fret I can ship anywhere in US. http://orangecounty.craigslist.org/pts/5347692723.html
