Default What do you think of my gauges?

I have recently added more blue lighting inside my car. My next projects will be the dome lights and map lights. Finding blue blubs to fit in those places might be tricky though.

wow nice job. i think i seen some lights like that at wal-mart. just 12v dash accessory accent led lights right? cool idea. but if i recall they only come in blue huh? come to think of it, they kinda look like those washer fluid sprayers with led's in them...

they are nice but what do they look like in the light? do you have black gauges or the silver ones, in the picture that blue is reflecting really nicely. i saw a guy on cardomain do this with a purple light

You are correct about the lights. I got them at Canadian Tire. They are just little dash LED pods.. I don't even notice them during the day light. I have the white/silver gauges so it reflects perfectly at night. This is the only reason I tried it. Also, because the LED pods are low and flat, the light stays mostly within the gauges without spreading. Very cheap and extremely effective mod.

very innovative - props for originality. my advice now would be to swap the LEDS behind the IP to white so the numbers show up white:

thanks yea white would be awesome. Does anyone have any ebay links to the proper bulbs that fit in the back of the cluster?

Also, has anyone seen anything floating around about changing the other "yellow" lighting behind stereo controls, and heating/ac controls etc?

I would love to turn these lights mostly blue. (obviously except for the stereo display)

I'm sure there must be a way.

There's a link in the above-linked how-to to where to purchase the correct bulbs. I believe the lights behind the HVAC controls are soldered onto the circuit board. So, unless you feel comfortable with all that, i'd just leave it.

Take a "Sharpie" or even a "blue candy wraper" and turn the lights to blue. (I haven't looked at the circuit board to see how the bulb/LED is slodered....normally speaking, it shouldn't be difficult at all)

You actually think that sharpie / candy wrapper idea would work? I could get vinyl to do it too. I probably would try with the vinyl since I could just take it off if it doesn't work as desired. thanks for comments.

Now my next question is, does anyone know if these lights are easy to get to? Would I have to rip out the entire HVAC/Stereo units to get to the circuit boads, or is it just face plates that can come off?

For illuminati63:

The neon lighting underneath is actually computer tower lights lol. I just bought some cheap discounted 12" cathode tubes from a local shop. To install, I just bought a pre-cut AC adapter to plug into my rear one since this port is triggered by ignition only and by the accessory electrical controls of the car. I have found the front AC port is always on. I just cut the wires from this AC adapter I purchased and spliced them into the power line coming from the switch box that came with my cathode lights (which currently hides in line with the console under the dash). I then wired inline a (nos style) switch or whatever you call it and mounted it to my dash for turning the lights on. Works nicely.

For synthkat:

I just bought the dash lights at a local auto shop ("Canadian Tire" here... cause I'm... Canadian eh). Maybe walmart has them. Basically they are really flat bright LED's that you stick in your car anywhere you want to. I just put mine on the dash and angled them correctly. It came with a AC plug that I put into my front port. Luckily it has a switch on the adapter head so I can control when those lights come on/off too. I just ran the wires around the console panels etc to hide them. Maybe one day I'll get all my lighting hooked up to one master switch

Hope that helped a bit. Let me know if you guys need more help etc.

I'll see if I can get a pic of the inside during the day sometime soon. If you look at the first picture I posted again, look just below the gauges and you'll see 2 flat rectangular things... thats where I mounted the LEDs. The wires (singles) just run separated around either side of the center dash panel and tucked under the dash and then along the center console towards the first Aux plug. I have power controls there, near the storage area around the handbrake.
I really love how it looks at night. I might consider swapping out the lights to bright white like others have suggested to bring more clean contrast for the #'s.

I want to wire my neons to my dome light. IN other words whenever my dome light comes on i want the neons to come on. Is there anyway i can do that or do i have to have a separate switch?
