That's probably exactly what they're going to do. From what a salesman relayed to me after meeting with the GM rep at the dealer for product training on the SKY, before the RL was official. The FWD will be S/C and the RWD will be turbo charged. I don't know why, but that's what he said. It's unlikely for GM to offer a different engine in the Coblat SS/SC and the ION Redline. (excuse me, Astra Redline )

No offense, but this isn't as reliable as you may think. I've had "salesmen with sources" tell me stuff that is flat out crap numerous times.

Also, who's to say they don't offer a different engine in the Cobalt SS/SC (TC?)

They could ship them complete with engines, since the 2.0 SC engine is made in Germany

I like the looks. I think the possibility of them slapping on the current Turbo'ed Ecotec is good. I've heard some here don't like GM bringing in the Opel's down here. I think it's a good thing.

Oh I know. Most of the time salesmen don't know crap, and things change all the time. Just what I heard, and it makes some sense, to me.

It'll end up being the reverse of what they did with the Sky / Opel Speedster crossover. They'll just slap Saturn badges on the Opel and, maybe, change the name.

Well, actually, that's what the discussions right now are about though, as a lot of people seemed to think that the next-gen Cobalt SS/SC and the Astra Redline may feature the 2.0 Turbo that is in the SKY RL right now. If Saturn can put out a version that is AWD with the 2.0 Turbo, it would sky-rocket the Astra Redline into the top ranks of 'tuner' cars, and put it in competition with the new Caliber SRT-4, the Evo, and the WRX STi. What remains to be seen, is whether Saturn/GM think it's necessary to put their cars into that realm, or whether they'd rather let them stay in the 2nd tier.

Now we're talking. I like that train of thought Unfortunately the Caliber SRT-4 is FWD only, from everything I've read about it. i think that's rediculous, and AWD would be a given but it seems it's not.

Is it going to be? I keep hearing both things, and never heard a confirmation for sure that it would only be FWD. Either way, the STi and Evo 9 are still leagues ahead of the IRL, and it would be nice to be at least a little closer without having to do major upgrades to the car.

The Caliber SRT-4 is AWD, they just don't advertise it, you have to special order the SRT version.

yep i wrote in a hurry and noticed ur correction...ur right...the Audi S6 North American version is considered a station wagon over hatchback...r32 would be a hatchback...the s6 is considered a station wagon...and thats a s6 avant...i stand corrected

Hardly... and I like the vee-dubs. I'd have a tough time choosing between a 3-door Astra RL and a Golf GTI R32, but the AWD in the Golf would probably win me over, sadly. I think they look much more like the Mazda 3 than the VW. Either way, that's like having your girlfriend compared to Christina Aguilera or something... I mean, are you really gonna take offense to that?
