2008 Astra XR
Default Parts needed for aftermarket stereo install

Can someone post a list of all parts needed for a single DIN radio install on the Astra? I am trying to get all the parts needed and want to make sure I have what I need.

So far I can get the Metra site:

99-3107G Mounting kit

Do I need anything else from Metra?
What parts will I need to order from overseas?

Thanks for the help.

You can also check out the link in my signiture for my install. It doesn't have part numbers, but I do use parts to keep the steering wheel controls and such. It should at least have some info for you.

Is the connects 2 worth getting?

Other then the BC options and steering controlls, what other functions are lost when you don't use one?

Reason I ask is places around me want 89 for one and I have been reading about these breaking on people.

Also the tool to remove the deck, where can you get one?

I think the connects 2 is worth it, $89 sounds about right.

You do retain the BC functions if you pull out the factory head unit, it does not need the connects 2 to keep working.

I think all that you really loose is the steering wheel volume control.

The biggest thing that I'm not certain of it accessing the BC's settings menu. I have the connects 2 on my Astra, and if I hold the source select button (looks like 2 dots with a bar over them) for about 3 seconds, the settings menu comes up on the BC. I don't know if that is a built in function, or the connects 2.

As far as the tool for removing the deck, if you really want to buy one, hit up eBay. You should be able to get one really cheap. You can also just cut up a metal hanger and bend it to fit in the 2 holes. I used really thin screwdrivers to get it out. You really just need a metal rod small enough to go straight in the holes. You just need to do both on one side at a time.

I think the control of the settings menu with the steering wheel buttons must be due to the connects two. I tried with mine yesterday and no go.

So install is completed. Pretty painless. Lost the settings option in the BC (can't adjust the time), but can see all other information.
