Default Instrument cluster installation

I am considering installing a new instrument cluster on my LW1 if the installation is easy / inexpensive.

My concerns are that the new cluster needs re-programming. Is this the case?

The second issue I have is, I can only get US clusters where the primary speed reading is miles. Would this cluster still show me the correct speed in kilometers?

I wish I could just swap the two clusters myself and not have to rely on GM.

REWARD EXCELLENCE!

ave you searched youtube? The procedure should be real easy and often (at least that was my case for my SC1) you don't need to remove anything other than the dash cover.

I believe the US cluster should show proper speed and I doubt that you need to reprogram the cluster as the information should all be coming from the computer.

bigcougar, examine your i/p cluster again. If I'm not mistaken, Canadian speedometers will have two overlays with kph in larger type face with smaller mph markings. Kph on the outer circle, mph in the inner circle. On USA clusters it's the other way around. The bigger problem is the odometer and how the bcm converts to miles or kilometers. With the xmission speed sensor an electrical signal, the bcm does the math and displays it. Other than using a USA speedo and reading the smaller kph numbers, replacing the i/p shouldn't be a problem other than the odometer issue. No Canadian junk yards or online sites for metric i/p clusters?
