Default Our 09 Outlook took a front head on hit!

Well Saturn fans , Winter has not been kind to me at all!
Two weeks ago my wife took the Outlook to work in the AM because
the road conditions were bad and it is AWD. Well I get a phone call in the AM
just as I am going to work. She tells me she was in an accident a person in
the oncoming lane lost control of his 08 Chevy Aveo and went into her lane
hitting her head on. She did suffer a broken knee cap but if she was in her Honda it could have beena lot worse! Thank You Saturn!
$ 4000.00 Damage it held together pretty well!

REWARD EXCELLENCE!

2008 Outlook XE
Attention Re: Our 09 Outlook took a front head on hit!

Sorry to hear about the wife's knee cap, hopefully heals well with no complications in the future !

BTW how many airbags filled the 'cabin' on this head-on ? They have a airbag embedded in the front seats uprights seemingly to protect our elbows, but nothing for your knees ??!

I presume you wife tried to 'defensively' brake to lessen the impact . . . i imagine if she had not that aveo would have been under the Outlook 'cause if memory serves... that is one of those streamlined lo-hi vehicles vs our Outlook's look like (as someone else said) the front end of a semi which can be quite unforgiving

Hope the 'bodyshop does a excellent to spec' repair job on yours !

Hi Guys!
Thanks for the replys, To answer a few questions.
The Chevy Aveo has no front end left to speak of. It hit
low on the drivers side front of the Outlook. Also no air bags deployed in
the Outlook. She hit her knees on the dash at the bottom under the steering wheel. We are fixable and the frame was not bent.

I forgot to add, there was only the driver in the Aveo, and his air bag did deploy, He had a cut on his forehead from the airbag! He was ok and did
not go in the ambulance. My wife was not able to stand up because of the
knee so the paramedics moved her. Our car would still run and move but had
it towed to be safe. Overall I am impressed with the build of this vehicle!

I had something similar happen. I'm glad your wife survived, but sad to hear about her knee.

I was driving my dads work car, a 1974 AMC Hornet up the Mississippi River bridge 45mph, when a 1976 Buick Opel fell asleep coming down the bridge at 45mph. He crossed lanes and hit me head on, the Hornet pushed the Jap car 10 feet up the bridge before we stopped. The whole front ends of both cars were 2/3's smashed in. The doors on the Hornet would still open. The Buick Opel was jammed shut like a box with the driver hanging his head out the window spitting blood. Other than cuts on my legs, I was in good shape. The metal tool box I had on the floor was mangled.

The most amazing thing was how time seemed to slow down before the impact, and the loud crash, the cracking of the windshield, the rear view mirror flying backward, and the silence afterwards. I put the shift in part, took off my seat belt and got out. I was also simultaneously side swiped by a Toyota truck from the rear when this happened. The ambulance arrived and immediately wanted to know where the driver was for the Hornet and was shocked that I was not severely injured.

The driver of the Buick Opel was driving his cousins car, and he was un-insured. We received no compensation for his actions. The heavier AMC Hornet won this battle protecting me from injury. The Hornet could not be fixed. The engine did survive and was transplanted into a Jeep later that month.

Well the parts list is growing a little on our repair,
Front Grille, Front fascia, Tranny cooler, A/C condenser, Radiator, Tie Bar,
Headlight Assy, Drivers side Fender and inner fender, once they get it all
apart you find what is really damaged. Just so it is repaired properly I will
be ok with it . It only had 3800 miles on it!

That's kinda scary since I have both of those vehicles. Sorry to hear about it and I hope that the wifes knee heals fast. Cheers!
