1997 SL
Default valve cover vents

(1997 SL)

Why are there two vent hoses from the valve cover?
1 into the air intake
1 is the PCV into the manifold.

They come from the same place?

So, can I put them into a T, into my catch jar?

One is an IN and the other is an OUT. One brings in filtered air to the crank case, and the other gets air/vapors sucked out through it.

Yep.

You only want the catch can / jar at the OUT (PCV) end of things

This has been on my to-do list for many years

Eliminating a source of vacuum on the crankcase isgoing ton cause far more problems than it will ever solve. Leaky gaskets and seals for one. Gasoline dilution of the oil another.

The "jar" is a canning jar (jelly jar), suitable for high temps, I've had it there for about 5 years now with no problems.

The hose and jar circuit is air-tight, so no loss of vacuum.

It catches a few ounces of oil per oil change.

Yes, it is on the PCV circuit only. Thank you for explaining the original Q.

You might want to check the PCV valve too. Iíve found aftermarket direct fit valves cause excessive oil consumption. Original olive green valves donít.
