Default Turbo Aura

I read that GM has a 1.9 litre turbo that could go into a smaller version of the Cadillac CTS for European release. How about a 1.9 TDI for the Aura when it is produced next year?

I don't see why not. There's a small (<2.0L) TDI in the Jetta, and it's about the same size. Better yet, why not make it a hybrid like the Honda Accord Hybrid. More power, less gas, what a deal!

If there's a 300+HP boosted V6 version, i.e., a Red Line, I'm on that like white on rice. I really like the G6, and if the Aura is going to be even nicer, edgier, and a Saturn, then I am pretty much sold.

The Aura is bigger than the Jetta. And the hybrid would be a great idea if it was free. It's not such a great deal when you consider you pay $3,000 for the joy of saving 2mpg.

Not to mention when the battery goes out you're paying out the ass to replace it.

Speaking from the corner of the service department of a Ford dealer where we're currently selling\servicing the **** out of the Hybrid Escape that is roaming around Detroit right now, the AVERAGE battery is covered under a 10 year 100,000 war. by Ford, according to the studies that have been done, the battery has the tendancy to start LOSING capacity between 80-100k miles. The control unit that monitors the electric motor and it's components starts reading the diminished capacity for charge and alerts the driver. If you're not smart enough to take the car into the dealer and get the battery replaced for free, that's your problem.

And by the by, the batteries for these cars are getting cheaper by the month. We've had to price adjust our system three times in the past 90 days due to price drops. And the Honda\Toyota batteries are even cheaper than ours!

I don't think a 1.9 TDI would be adequate for the Aura. The Aura is a bigger car than the small Cadillac heading to Europe.

I wouldn't mind seeing that engine in the ION to give some competition to VW diesels.

Also I will make a point before someone starts in on it: The VUE hybrid is a different and less complicated system than the hybrid systems on the market now. They claim it will only get 10% better economy, but it won't have the price tag of today's hybrids. It will probably still be high initially to control demand and recoup development costs. My guess is that the hybrid option on the VUE will be $2,000.

I agree with spencerb. 1.9 TDI would work better with ION than Aura. For the NA market, the displacement would have to be larger. Aura is expected to get the 2.4L Ecotec and the 3.6L high-feature V6 from the CTS. A likelier candidate for turbo diesel technology is the 2.8L global V6 that is the CTS' base engine and in turbo form will power future Saabs.
