Saturn VUE reliability (please sign up if you're new)

Because existing sources of vehicle reliability information left much to be desired, in late 2005 I started conducting my own reliability research at TrueDelta.com. TrueDelta reports absolute stats like "trips to the shop" that make the differences between cars much clearer. Results are updated four times a year, so any significant changes in a model's reliability become apparent quickly.

Thanks to the help of Saturnfans and its members, for which I am very grateful, TrueDelta was able to provide quick results for the new Aura and Outlook. With the new VUE, we hope to provide reliability information before anyone else. The more participants there are, the more accurate these results will be and the more detail TrueDelta will be able to provide.

Participants simply report repairs the month after they occur on a one-page survey. When there are no repairs, they simply report an approximate odometer reading four times a year, at the end of each quarter.

To encourage participation, panel members will receive full access to the results for free.

40 owners have signed up so far.

However, only 16 of these have responded to the survey, for a total of 38 months of data. I only show a result at all if there are at least 45 months of data, and asterisk this result unless there are at least 75 months of data.

There will almost certainly be a result in a few weeks. The big question is whether this result will have an asterisk.

A follow-up email with links to the survey goes out tomorrow. If you've already signed up, please respond to it. If you haven't yet signed up, please consider doing so.

To make sure I understood correctly...we cant actually take the Reliability Survey until enough owners have registered their car. Once there are enough owners, then we will recieve a montly email with a link to the survery correct?

Updated results posted recently. The 2008 VUE remains worse than average, but the repair rate has been coming down. As the second model year, the 2009 could be better--but not enough signed up yet. Have a 2009? We need your help.

We have updated results for the VUE based on owner experiences through the end of September. In terms of repair trips per 100 cars per year, the 2008 VUE has improved to 42, which is about average.

We've also introduced two new statistics, "Nada-odds" and "Lemon-odds," to indicate the percentage of cars with no repairs in the past year and those that required 3+ trips to the repair shop.

For the 2008, the only model year for which we have enough data for these stats, the percentage with no repairs is about 75 and the percentage of lemons is less than one.

A big thanks, once again, to this forum an everyone who has been helping. We'll have further updates in February and May. With more participants, we could provide more precise information and cover the 2009 as well.

Hi! New here as well. I registered on the reliability thing as well, and registered all of our cars/SUV vehicles. I found an 08 VUE XE for my 83 yr old mom to drive, 72K miles, nice shape. Thx for the welcome!

I just discovered that the oil change done by our local Cadillac dealer was less than my expectations. They overfilled the oil by two quarts. I do not drive very much (only put on 2000 miles since the first of November of 2018. I did not discover a problem until the car started to leak oil. Our mechanic found the overfill but the leak is between the transmission and the motor. The transmission has to be pulled to fix it. The Cadillac dealer would like me to believe that 2 quarts over is not a big deal. Our mechanic has withdrawn about 2 1/2 quarts to reach the optimum oil level. The receipt for the oil change shows they charged us for 6 quarts when the car only uses 4 quarts. It is a 2008 Saturn Vue.

I believe they are responsible for the problem. Your thoughts.
