SC2 wouldn't start, until tapped on starter..?

My car (have had it less than a week - it 's a 2001 Saturn SC2) hasn't had any start issues, until today. Parked it, went into convenience store, came back out and it wouldn't start! After a while, tapped on the starter, and it started. I'm assuming this would mean the solenoid is bad, and I need a new starter? Or is there anything else I need to rule out before having the starter replaced?

Mileage? If you know how to test for the START signal on the small (purple) wire (disconnect for safety when checking for 12v) on the starter solenoid, do so. Ignition switch turned to the START position should show 12v on this wire. If so then the starter is worn out. Replace it unless you know how to rebuild one.
