Default Upgrading to aftermarket CD player...

Hey everyone,

Going to be upgrading my factory deck to a Kenwood unit, but it's 2 years old. I'll post some pics when the install is finished.

So far, I only have the head unit installation kit, and awaiting the GM Lan adapter I purchased to come in the mail.

I'll post an update when one's available. In the meantime, anyone else have any pics they can share in terms of your aftermarket units installed into the Vue?

Hey Saturndood,

I actually just got done putting in a new system but I actually kept the stock deck so I'm little help to you. I installed the following;

4 x 10"x10" dynamatt in door panels around the speakers
4 x infinity reference 6022i
1 x infinity reference 5 channel amp
1 x infinity kappa 10" subwoofer
1 x MTX Audio reQ

It sounds great while maintaining the stock look. I'm considering picking up the stock nav unit when one appears on ebay. Who knows, maybe in a year or so I'll look in to replacing the stock deck with a navigation unit.

Most of us that have ventured into the stereo upgrade program have elected to retain the factory head unit.
If you want to maintain your steering wheel controls, door and turn signal chimes and factory alarm system without adding countless bypass modules then stick with a factory head unit.
Aftermarket units don't integrate very well with the body control module (computer).
There are several decent signal processors available from the aftermarket that enable you to integrate the factory head unit with any combination of amplification that you can dream up.
I also like the fact that you end up with an awesome sounding system while retaining the factory look.

Thanks for the replies guys, however as much as I respect the fact you are staying with the factory look, I decided to put in my Kenwood that was in my ION that I purchased 2 years ago. It's no fancy deck, but it oes have a USB port on the front and an Aux jack that I can plug into as well.

Reason being, when I removed everyhting from my ION, I had this perfectly nice deck that I was going to save for a possible second car down the road, however that doesn't look to be happening anytime soon, as well as this overwhelming desire to get a bike now, so why let the deck sit there and do nothing, and why sell it off for peanuts on the dollar?

Anyways, I got my Onstar retaining module in the mail today, but I won't have a day to do the install for at least a week. Pics will eventually be up, but thanks for your reply guys.

OK install went pretty smooth. Thanks to the thread compiled by hand-filer for the removal of the 08 Vue dash. Without that, no doubt it would have taken me alot longer than it actually did. Thanks again.

pics of the finished install is in my member photos. Sorry for the bad quality pics, they were taken by my blackberry. My regular digicam batteries were dead.

Radio looks great. How does it sound and do you still have the RAP (retained accessory power)?

Chillin',

Thanks I appreciate it. The kenwood sounds alot cleaner than the factory deck, so I'm happy. I have no plans in the near future to upgrade any of the audio components like speakers, or adding an amp and subs, but who knows? So for now, the cleaner sound is much appreciated.

Anyways, I used the GMAHLAN Adapter which retans onstar, all chimes and RAP functions as well. The only thing I didn't opt for is the steering wheel adapter, but I didn't really ever use it anyways.
