Default 205/50R15 tires

I'm looking to order tires this week. Originally I was looking at the Yokohama S.drive which are $86. But then there is the General Exclaim UHP which are $68 and come with a $50 Visa card. Well I guess the Generals are definitely the best value, but I'm not sure how good they are. Any opinions? I also have Eibach springs if that makes any difference. I'm just looking for a sporty tire, nothing that I'm going to be putting a lot of miles on.

I have Hankook Ventus tires in this size. Even with a worn out stock suspension they are the grabbiest tires I have had to date, in 90K miles. I know that there are better tires out there, but in rain they hold great and in curves and stopping they are great. I got mine last spring and I run them hard all summer. I put about 33-34psi in front and 26-28 in back because they have kind of soft sidewalls. I don't remember what I paid, but there was free shipping from Discount Tires and even after paying for install, I saved money over anything I could get in my part of Montana!

They really hold!

I'm running nitto neo gens in this size, and I'm pretty impressed with them. honestly, I can't break them free at all. that may have more to do with my failing pressure plate, but reguardless, they hold really well in turns. $330 installed from tire kingdom. I had to get tires from them on account of a blowout. they're cheaper online, though not by much when you factor in installation.

the only drawback for me is the 3" of wheel gap that I now have to deal with. :/ but since you're already lowered, you won't have that problem as much..

also, the acceleration is great, but they cut my mpg down by about 3. then again, that could be from me having some fun with my new shoes... it also throws your speedometer off a bit. at 40, my speedo reads about 44. so sayeth the speed survey thing parked near my house. I'm probably gonna go with 55's next time. more true to the stock wheel size, and they'll still hold just as good.

They wear very fast. I've had 'em less then 10k miles and the rears (used to be fronts) are down to the wear bars. They still have the red & green lines though so...

Not very sticky IMO, I can make them squeek going into 2nd with 1/2 throttle.

The proper way to fix a S-Series automatic is to replace it with a 5spd O:)

I'd highly recommend the Kumho Ecsta XS tires. They are awesomely sticky and a 205/50R15 is only $89 each at the Tire Rack. I'm running them on my 02 SC2 and the amount of grip is insane!!

Haha whoops.

Yes! I was hoping eRic 02sc2 would stop in lol. I have decided that I'm going to just use my other wheels to travel west next month, but after that I will be looking for new tires. Will definitely look at the Kumho Ecsta XS. Actually I think I noticed them before but wasn't sure of the Kumho name. So it's probably the Kumho Ecsta XS or Yokohama S.Drive. Thank you eRic 02sc2.

I was looking at the Ecsta LX Platinum KU27s, just because they're OE size....are they as sticky and as good as the XS tires?

Sounds like I've got a tire replacement.

The UHP's aren't bad, especially for the price, but I'm not 100% convinced they're any better then the 185/65R15 Zeons that were on my old '97 SL2.

If your looking for sticky tires, forget the s.Drives and get the XS

No - Ecsta XS is the stickiest Kumho street (140 and above tread wear) tire.

June 2009 issue of Grassroots Motorsports tests six extreme summer performance tires. Here's how they were ranked from first to last:

Kumho Ecsta XS
Bridgestone Potenza RE-11
Bridgestone Potenza RE-01R (discontinued)
Toyo Proxes R1R
Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 Star Spec
Falken Azenis RT-615

Thanks guys, I will probably go with the Kumhos. They are decently priced too. The car they are going on is only driven for competitive events and Friday nights
