![]() I have a 1999 saturn SL2.
Key was starting to get difficult to put in the lock cylinder, no biggie. I will fix this while I have it apart for the following problem. My problem is, that when you go to turn the key, NOTHING comes on. You work the key back and forth a bit and you get a smattering of electrical through the system, dash lights and stuff come on like normal before you crank it. otherwise NOTHING, no electrical at all, as if you didn't even put the key in and turn it. I suspect it is the ignition switch (directly behind the lock cylinder). Or would it be something else? Looking for suggestions before I go spend the cash to get the parts I can't return. ... 97 SW2 270,000 miles and died when a tree fell on it. ![]() Yes it does sound like the switch itself is acting up. And not the lock cylinder, try pulling the switch off and see if turns and functions properly, some cars have a sort of drive shaft between the the lock cylinder and the switch which I have seen break.

![]() There is no drive shaft. Your problem sounds like a defective/worn out switch.

![]() Thanks.
when I pulled the cylinder lock out behind it was a, well, a funny looking piece that the lock cylinder went into. I pulled it out, and screwed up and didn't notice how to put it back together. that may be the "drive shaft" thing spoke of earlier. do you have any pictures of that and how it's suppose to look. after taking out the drive shaft thing I noticed a chunk of metal was stuck in it and it look like it was sheared off. I'll have to get out my camera and put up some pictures . ... 97 SW2 270,000 miles and died when a tree fell on it. ![]() No pictures. Take the switch off the back and figure it out. You may have broken it.
It is possible you should be replacing the entire column lock housing assembly. It is a junk yard assembly and after you remove one you will know how to get yours apart. It is all held on there by 2 security screws. Late 97 to 99 is a definite fit.
