Question Wiper motor erratic behavior

So here's one; '99 SC1 with wiper delay. The wipers will function as intended when the car and/or outside temp is relatively warm. However, in colder temperatures and when the vehicle is cold the wipers will always turn on when I tell them to but will shut off when and where (in the windshield) they feel like it. When I hit mist, they should only wipe once or twice, but they'll go for a couple minutes then stop in the middle of the windshield, etc. I remember having an '88 Silverado that did the same thing and I remember pulling the wiper motor apart and finding that there was a disk with metal fingers that contacted it in various places and by cleaning the contact points and by bending the fingers down a 'lil more, I got it to work properly for a while. Eventually I just tapped in to the motor itself and put it on a toggle switch.... I haven't even looked at this system closely yet to see if it's similar. I'm guessing being GM, it probably is. Anyway, just wondering if there's any quick fixes that you folks can think of before I go tearing into this and rewiring it.

Old post update: Lubed wiper arms, no difference. I never heard the wiper motor struggling anyway, but was far easier than tearing into the motor assembly and is never a bad thing to do for any vehicle anyway. If/when it warms up a little bit here, I'll just wire in a toggle switch directly. Been there, done that. Oh well.
Happy holidays to all!

My '97SW2 shield wiper just transitioned to 'bonkers' last week:
First hint- When driver attempts to employ the 'wipe, low speed' function to clean up after a wash job ... the wash becomes constant , and maintains ops when control lever is shifted to 'wipe, high' location.
Second hint- When driver attempts to motor along innocently in clear weather , the wiper unilaterally initiates ops ... intermittently .
* *
A recall/free wiper circuit board was issued for '94+'95 {and some other years} of GM pickups/suburbans. The backyard mechanic fix - which worked for me - was to inspect the wiper control circuit-board where the harness connector terminals are; cracks around the terminal base(s) only need to be resoldered to restore normal ops.
I drove a '94 at work , which resourcefully had figured how to only function when the ambient conditions were 'dry'; my '95 was acquired used with an intermittent condition.

I fix the same problem on my 96 SL1 maybe every 2 years since i have the car. I read a lot of post that explain how to change the motor to correct the problem but in fact, for my car, the correction is only to clean the connector of the motor wiper with a good contact cleaner. I lub the joins of the linkage kit too to prevent a jam of it cause it's a hard job to put it out and change it...

Hope this will help
