Default $200 HID Kit

http://hidextreme.com/Saturn_HID_Application.html

I am sure many many people have posted questions about HIDs on a Saturn. Here is what I am trying to accomplish/questions:

I want to do them right, duh, so this is a full kit, ballasts, bulbs, wires, etc. will the stock enclosure work ok for HIDs? I am looking to get the 8k to stick with the blue color if at all possible. The main question is if I buy this kit, from experience, am I going to need anything else? Thanks ^_^

PS: Is the kit good? Anyone have better luck with someone else?

no car that didn't come with hids is going to be "ok" with hids. you need projectors not reflective housings. and all real hid kits, bring ballast, harness, bulbs etc. you're going to blind on coming traffic without projectors if u aim the lights too high. and if u aim them too low you won't be able to see.

i recently put 8000k's i nmy sl2, no projectors, i had to aim em low enough not to blind ppl but it only lights up like 25 feet in front of u.

That is a retrofit write up, it should help you with what you want to do. My advice though, is go with 4300K bulbs and do the "color mod" from the website:

A-tek on ebay.

100 bucks for the same thing. Bulb, ballast tank, and bracket for the tanks with wiring.

You can only put them in the High beams. NOT the low beams. To use them as low beams you have to do the projector setup like BigSho did in the above threads.

I use them in the High beams ONLY. Thus they are shut off when oncoming traffic in the other lane or I am behind another vehicle

Granted, idealy the retrofit should be done since i believe they are illegal with out the projectors or housings designed for them. Depends on your state

I got pulled over for my low beam being out and he asked specificly if they were HID

Yes that kit will be fine to use....Everybody on here is stuck on doing the whole Projector thing...Dont have to do it....

I have 6Ks in my low beams, 6k is the highest id go as far as wanting the best light output...I really want 5Ks, i have 2 sets of 8k's in My ranger and light output is rather low compared to the 6k's...also depends on Brand, different brands will spit ut different colors even if they are the same "K's"

I plan on posting pictures and then getting flamed here shortly hopefully i cna get some shots this weekend....

No, you dont HAVE to use projectors with the HID's, BUT, some states it is illegal and look at the pictures below........(both courtesy of http://www.hidplanet.com)

This is a 12,000k color temp kit pic, see all the light strayed off where it shouldn't be?

Now compare it to some 4300k color temp Hid's in a tsx projector and as you can see, there is no stray light anywhere its not supposed to be.

(pic taken from haknslash at hidplanet)

Now do you understand why we all say: "Projector retrofit or dont bother"?

Ya, I have seen this, looked through all of the pics on how to retrofit. It makes no sense to put HID is stock housing, I will guaranteed get pulled over for them and it looks like crap to be honest.

Try to find a kit that has a warranty and really try to find one that is being sold here in the USA cause if you need to warranty it then you wont have to ship it far. Reason being is that if you dont get a quality set-up off the bat then you will end up being S.O.L. down the road when a ballast takes a ***** on you when your driving, even if that means you have to spend a little bit more money.
