Default Passlock question

I am looking at a 2002 SC2 with a blown motor. The bigger issue is the ignition, someone tried to steal the car and destroyed the ignition cylinder in the process. I have the ability to get the old cylinder out and replace it with a new cylinder and key. What is the process to getting the BCM to recognize the new key and cylinder? Is this something that needs to be done at the dealership? Because if it is its a dealbreaker for me.

It should be the 3 cycles of key on, 10 min wait. Very rarely is the Tech-2 approach required. The sensor is in the housing and not the cylinder so if the cylinder survived it is fixable easily. If the housing is broke that requires a 2002 0r 2001 replacement and I would have to check and see if 2001 would work.

The bottom of the housing has been removed and the 3 wire sensor appears to be intact, although the pins are bent. So if I get a new key and cylinder its just the 3 times on and wait sequence? I like that alot the car has only 110k and is fully loaded. Looking to pay 500 at the most.

There is a recent thread where I went through all the various parts of the fix, don't have a link or even a title but the standard security reset is all that is required.

This article was very poorly written. Just saying. Any ways, so they are saying just force it to an on position?

No, if you want to figure out how to deal with passlock then google defeat passlock. That article just describes how it works. It can be permanently killed off if you want.
