Default Squealing noise

Ok, here's what is happening. The power steering pump and belt tensioner needed replacement, so I replaced the PSP...so far so good. Next I replace the belt tensioner, now there's a high pitched squeal. It is more pronounced after a cold start, and can occur when turning the steering wheel when stopped, and also when turning on the AC.

So...as an easy measure I replaced the idler pulley...$20 & 15 min later...squealing noise is still there.

So is it the AC compressor/clutch? I wonder why it didn't make this noise with the old tensioner? So hard to tell where this noise is coming from.

Any help appreciated.

Default Re: Squealing noise

Oh, ok.

I didn't do enough research.

I cleaned the pulleys with Brakleen, noise still there. So I replaced the belt (only 10K on it though) and now the noise is gone. I wonder if the belt got contaminated with grease or oil?

Apologies to anyone who might be annoyed by yet another "squealing noise" post.

But now I understand the reason for the squeal -- belt slippage.

By the way, don't get that Autozone Dayco tensioner. That was my previous one and it only lasted 12K miles. Plus, the plastic (not metal!) pulley partially blocks the bolt access making it HARD to turn. Spend a few extra dollars and get a good one. I wouldn't be surprised if that's what wore out my belt.
