I would send the other motor back if possible, as I've never seen a sunroof motor actually go.

I just finished replacing the sunroof motor for the second time (original plus two replacements) in my 01 SL2. Sunroof Doctor sold me the original replacement motor five years ago and provided the second one free of charge two weeks ago. As was stated earlier, the plastic gear inside the motor seems to be the wear item. My suggestion would be to buy a reman motor from Sunroof Doctor.

Thanks again for the help everybody.
I wonder if SD should add the timing of the motor to their installation instructions, although I don't think many people have had the issues I did because they didn't mention timing the motor when I spoke with them on the phone.
