Default 2003 L200 rear drum brakes 91000 miles

2003 L200 rear drum brakes 91000 miles

I've tried and tried to get the rear drums off. I have beat the crap out of the drum with a sledgehammer, sprayed oil, and tried to pry it.

I can get the drum to separate on the outside edge by prying, I can even see it separating from the lug holes, but it will not come loose from the center.

What I have read is that the center part is the hub and it will stay attached to the car and the drum will slide off the center piece, however it looks like the drum is attached to the center hub.

Does anyone know if the drum slide off the center or is the center piece part of the drum?

Anyone have pictures of the drums removed from this car? I have pictures from the Haynes manual but I don't know if it is correct.

Thanks

The center is rusted and or the drum is rusted to the center. They area pain in the backside to get off. Penetrating fluid is your friend as is patience. try using a wire brush to clean up the center as much as possible. Hitting at the area around the wheel bolt holes may break the rust free as well.

Okay tried again no luck...

I have the wheel off right now..

It looks like the hub is welded to the drum, is that possible?

I wire brushed around the hub and it looks like soft solder.

Please help asap as I want to get this done today.

thanks

From the FSM; if difficulty is encountered when removing the drum, insert a screwdriver in access hole and push park brake lever toward outside of drum to release shoes from adjuster. Remove brake drum.

Thanks.... I will have to see if there is a hole... I think I looked before and didn't see it....

I did get the drum off... I used a torch and got it hot. It started to pop and I knew it was coming. Hit it with a hammer and it came loose..

Thanks
