Default Vue Green Line 4t45e Trans Shot????

My wife's vue seems to have lost all power to the wheels.

2008 Vue Green Line
140,000 miles

Last week, driving on the interstate with cruise, the RPMs surged and the vechicle began to decelerate. We had it towed home and the next day drove it around town. I noticed it would not shift out of gear under load, releasing the throttle it would shift into the next gear. Occasionally it would slip out of gear and the RPMs would surge until I released the throttle then slowly come down to under 3000rpm and slowly re-engage.

Took it to my company shop and poked around for a couple of hours, googling everything I could. Took her out for a run again. This time it refused to shift out of first gear. I could accelerate very very slowly until about 2-3000 rpm then it would gradually slip and the RMPs would surge freely.

I no longer have reverse, the "manual mode" does not work. Drive provides nearly zero forward acceleration, the engine seems to spin almost freely.

I have DTC code P1808 and the message "Service Hill Start Assist".

I have not yet checked the trans fluid level but with the mileage and lack of any service for almost 50k miles, I won't be surprised to find 4 gears sitting in a pile on the bottom of the pan.

Thoughts?

Check xmission fluid level first before condemning a ruined xmission.

Ok, pulled the pan. Fluid is burnt and full of the glittery guts of my transmission. I tried ordering a trans from RockAuto but they said the 4t45e they have on their site is not compatible with the hybrid. What transmission do I need?

Clearly sounds you've got FDBU in the transmission. (Fairy Dust Build Up) Usually cause by fairies partying hard inside your transmission, getting drunk and leaving a mess to clean up.

The 4T45E is the regular 5speed auto mated to the 2.4L motor, it's similar but it will with your vehicle. Technically it will bolt to your engine, but that's all about it will do, none of the connections are the same, axles, hybrid motor doesn't mount to it, etc.

I've already DM'ed you back.

LOL FDBU love it!

What about rebuilding the trans? I suppose it depends on what needs replaced. I'm hoping to pull it out this weekend and having my mechanic dig into it a bit.

We're going to try a rebuild. Will the parts for a standard 4t45e work?

We've finally torn into the transmission. I was surprised to see the clutch packs in good shape. What I did find was the oil pump shaft was deeply scored and very loose. It looks like the bearings gave out and the pump failed. Next step is pulling the transmission out and seeing how far back the damage goes...

Got it apart and I need some replacement parts, however I can't find them anywhere.

(world wide web.) makcotransmissionparts.com/mm5/graphics/Catalog-pdf/4T40E-4T45E.pdf (aparently I can't post links yet.)

It looks like something inside of part 673 gave out and tore the shaft on part 671 to shreds. I can find the following:

671 - $100
380 - $1
295 - $13

I'm not worried about find the gaskets. They seem to be readily available.

I can't find the following:

705
279
178
673

Is there anywhere in particular I should look??

Ok, better description -

Turbine shaft, seals, supports and bearings
drive sprocket, sleeve, washer, and snap ring
Converter Seal

Oil pump drive shaft
Oil pump bearing and seal and vane ring

Where on earth do I source these from?

Tried several GM online parts sources or Googled '4T45E xmission parts? With thousands of these still on the road, there should be sources for these parts. My guess is if not from GM, xmission parts distributors.

I think you can get a GM certified from a Chevrolet dealer with a 3 year warranty. Maybe a little more money now will give you 3 years + of good service.
I don't think 140,000 mile patch up, Fairy Dust Build Up will give you very good service.

PS The Fairies may have had some gremlins at the party

A little update for everyone.

5 months into this now. Wife already bought a new car. Transmission is on the shop floor. I'm waiting on the last few parts to arrive. 2 more weeks, God willing.

What we found:
Pump bearing failed, steel pins are gone, bearing shell is worn through on one side. This caused the pump shaft to cant in the turbine shaft, wearing the sleeve through and locking the torque converter up. This must have cause some excessive torque on the intermediate/4th band as it almost pulled it out of it's retaining slot, splitting the steel ring.

So, now $800 worth of parts and one hell of a generous mechanically certified friend, she should be good as new in only a couple weeks time. Then she's going to straight to the dealership as a trade-in.

Any chance of posting some pictures? I despise every driver rubber necking and stopping traffic flow in hopes of seeing blood and gore but I find it fascinating to see damage in mechanical, electrical, electronic, whatever. I've been viewing YouTube videos of tig welding and extremely impressed with the talent hiding behind the face shields as they repair broken parts. YouTube is my encyclopedia Britannica to learn how they do it........ for almost anything. The best show and tell possible right at home with an internet connection.
