Default Joining 2 pipes, exhaust

I need to join 2 different sized diameter pipes for a new exhaust. How could I join those 2 pipes with a damn-near airtight seal? I dont want to breathe in fumes obviously but a tiny bit isnt bad as long as the opening doesnt get bigger. Iíll try to check back tomorow with the exact sizes, but i think theyre around 2in-3in. Thank you for your help

Depends a bit on where you are joining them, but stainless band clamps are a pretty good option

Exhaust adapters and U bolt exhaust clamps are also an option but don't know how long they will last, if rust is a concern

They make reducer pipes, though slightly odd ones like 3" down/up to 2" may be hard to find pre-made.

Could I find this at an Ace or Menards?

Im cutting the midpipe after the cat and attaching it to the elbow after the exhaust manifold. Rust isnt a worry here, could I get the u-bolt clamps at an Ace or Menards?

"Could" you find it there? Maybe...no idea what a general hardware store would have for exhaust size pipe.

I believe this is close, though not exactly, what you need: https://www.amazon.com/Nickson-Indus.../dp/B0049EIBHW
Nickson is the brand O'Reilly's use's, should be able to order that part number from them if they don't happen to have it in stock.

2003 VUE 2.2L
Default Re: Joining 2 pipes, exhaust

Heres a short list of adapters available on Amazon:

https://www.amazon.com/slp/exhaust-a...ovwaa5cy9cj79r

I used DuckDuckGo with the search terms:

2 inch to 2 1/2 inch exhaust pipe adapter

You could plug in your pipe sizes and it should come back with all kinds of sources for adapters. You could either weld these or use a pipe clamp

I've never seen the u-bolt style exhaust clamps at the local Ace/Menards hardware stores.

But every auto parts store (autozone, advance, oreillys, etc) will carry them in wide range of sizes

https://www.autozone.com/emission-co...eVehicle=false

side note, had to open that in a private window, otherwise the stupid website tells me that these universal parts don't fit my Saturn, hurr-durr

Visiting local auto stores stocking exhaust pipe adapters first may turn up what's needed, provided you measured inside and outside diameters of each pipe. If local auto stores don't have what you want, ask if they can order your size. Next step is visiting online to places like summitracing, https://www.summitracing.com/search/...g?fr=part-type to see every possible adapter made for custom work local stores may not carry.
