Roll Eyes Emissions are going up

Yeah, thank goodness I got my car inspected earlier than what it said on the sticker. I found out that they are raising th cost of emissions. That really sucks! As of December 1st, $60 some odd dollars will be tacked on to inspection .

What are your views on it

If it's mandatory, it should be free. Why don't we all start a revolt and have NO ONE go to have it done. Then see what happens... they can't put everyone in jail, they're allready over-crowded. They can't fine everyone, we can have a class action suit

Damn, that sucks. So my annual PA inspection costs will go from $18 for inspection, to $78 for inspection plus emissions????

Bummer!

Hopefully I am wrong about the price cause I really don't want to pay that much because if you nee parts on top of that, its a butt load to pay for.

Where do you live? In Maryland it was like $10 or $15 last time I had to take my old car in which would have been two years ago.
If anything, it should drop in price here, because the state decided to stop doing an actual sniffer test and just go in and read if any codes are stored in your computer. That's probably one of the stupidest things I've heard in my life! For one thing, the computer isn't going to tell you if the car is burning oil! Of course, that's only for cars made after 1998, the measure the exhaust on everything else.

For just emissions? Every year or every 2 years?
In NJ we have a safety and emissions check every 2 years. It's free if you use the state inspection center. If you want to go private then it's around $80.
Any new car (2001 and newer) doesn't have to go through inspection for 4 years.

Oh, one other thing about emmissions testing, the first 30 seconds after a cold start are supposed to produce more emmisions than any other point in actual driving. Yet, they don't test it.

For me personally, I like the fact that they are doing emissions testing, but for $60 they can shove it up their tailpipe...:o: I wouldn't mind paying an extra $20 or heck even $30 but that is just outrageous.

What MY's have to have the emissions testing? I am just curious. I heard that after a vehicle is 10 years old, it doesn't have to have it.

Emissions and inspections already cost ~$60 here. Joy.

$30 in most NC counties, up from $20. Now they read codes instead of sniffing the car's buttpipe.

last time i heard, the only time u would be required to pass a emissions test was if the car had a 'totaled' tag. would why u want to do this on your own, specially annually?

My old SL1 failed PA emissions back in December 2000. I spent $4,000 to get it to pass. :o: I had other reasons for getting the work done, but failing the emission standards was the main reason I did it then and there. $60 bucks is a lot. The new governor must be looking for different ways to screw us. We have to do it every year here in PA, but some counties don't require emissions testing. Mine does though.

Maybe in your part of NY! No emissions check here. Inspection is $16. Remember when you say NY, you're speaking about a large and diverse state and what is true for the "downstate" isn't always true for the Upstate! Remember, we drink pop here!

The car was paid off at the time. I wanted to keep it running through college so I wouldn't have to worry about paying a new car bill. I ended up getting a Ion2 two years later. I was tired of putting money into it. We call it POP too here in south western PA SW2Mack.

Yeah, the new governor makes me mad in so many ways as well. But I won't get into that.

I just said that to razz the one guy from Downstate NY. Many times folks down there forget that what applies to them doesn't apply to us. Many people, around the country forget that you're still in NY once you're past Westchester!
