Saturn wagon being sold as-is, no warranty.
According to dealer policy, price is firm, non-negotiable. https://www.sovereignauto.com/vehicl...02b4edbccb37db |

It probably makes sense to the sleazebag dealer.
If it was closer I would go look at it and nitpick it down to a couple hundred.... ![]()

Offer him the auction value and tell him to keep you in mind before he puts it on the block.

The lack of corrosion under the hood means that this vehicle was not originally from Flushing, Michigan. A few pictures of the underside would confirm this.
The green grass means that these pictures were not taken yesterday.

It would be a good idea to look at the front control bar where it’s hidden under the rubber mounts. Use a scribe to dig under the rubber. You could bring a giant breaker bar with a 15mm 6-point impact socket and try to turn the bolts that secure the control bar’s mounting brackets ![]()

Value is what ever a willing buyer and willing seller agree on. KBB would suggest a high of $4430, but if it really is rust free, everything works, engine is sound, no codes, I don't see any reason you couldn't pay what they are asking. It's low mileage too. I set everything in KBB to Lansing, the mileage, and the options I could see from the pics...so that KBB high price from a dealer is close to what you'd expect to pay anyway.
You could send them $300 to hold it, and ask for several pics of the undercarriage. Even the tail pipe's chrome piece seems free of rust in their picture from the summer so it may have been from out of state or kept in a garage during the winter. Ask if people have test driven it in the salt lately though. I'd bet the NADA book value is pretty close to that $4999. (National Automotive DEALERS Association explains why it would be higher than KBB). If you want it BUY IT. Don't worry about price as much as what your personal car preferences are. Just sayin'. And HEY IT HAS A CASSETTE PLAYER!

KBB and NADA judge by the standards of other cars...
Saturn people in my experience are different. For instance - would YOU pay extra for an automatic transmission? Not me baby......

Absolutely WOULD pay extra for AT. Manual tranni's are from the '20's. AND 85% of owners have no idea how to drive one. And it's been that way for decades. If I had $10 for every time I was held up at a stop sign, light, RR crossing, or parking lot waiting for the idiot in front of me to finally get it in gear and slooooowly release the clutch, I'd be rich.

It's nice looking.
You have to see the rear rocker panel tops, and a good long look at the underside to assess the structural integrity. The parts are beginning to be challenging to find. |

Hahahaha! Oh, you're serious? You're kidding.
I've never had to replace an AT. But I've had to replace several clutches and throw out bearings. And helped friends or relations do it too. Hate that job. Those few times I owned stick ALWAYS ended up having to replace the clutch plate. On ATs rarely had to do anything to them. Probably related to the fact that I've driven them with care. Seldom ever used an AT as a race car. Drove clutch that way too.

I have not been nice to my 5 speeds. I run them hard more than occasionally. No problems.
I have had one clutch be problematic - due to a leaking rear main seal. I would never run an AT hard - as I have seen the results of doing so. I even bought back the engine of one SL2 in a car I had sold the neighbor kid. He pounded the crap out of it and the AT did not survive. (By admission).
