Engine swap

I have a 2006 Ion 3 with manual transmission. I'm wanting to know if I can put a 2003 Ion 3 engine with automatic transmission in the 2006 . And what all will I need to change? I'm not swapping the transmissions.

Don't have direct knowledge but I think this would be compatible at least in terms of mounting points.
Of course you'll have to change out flywheel, etc.
I'd try and use your existing ECM but not sure if the sensors on the older engine are 100% the same.

Yes, it should work. However, you'll need to reuse the intake and throttlebody off the 2006. The 2006 is throttle-by-wire, but the 2003 still uses a cable throttlebody like most older cars.

I have a 1995 Saturn SL2 with a blown head gasket. I've been looking on ebay and found a few engines from $400-$1000 but most of them are from 1996-1999. Are these engines compatible? Also, what about 1993-1994 engines? They all have a 7 as the 8th digit on the VIN like mine. Does this make a difference?

My saturn has the 1.9L DOHC I4 with a manual transmission 141000 miles.

You should post this in the S series section, this is the Ion section which uses a different engine.
