Default 3rd gen SC headlights don't fit in 3rd gen SW/SL bumper

I'm working towards doing a 2nd gen SC front end swap onto my SW2. I haven't managed to find the needed parts yet, hasn't turned up in my junkyard, except I'm using 3rd gen headlights. A bit eager I decided to go ahead and swap in the housings, but was disappointed to find I couldn't get the mounting holes on the housing to line up with the bracket (which I swapped in first).

Any ideas on if cutting a relocation bracket out of some sheet metal to stack between them until I complete the swap would work?

Well, after looking at the owner's manual, I discovered the low beams need to be 9006xs bulbs instead of the 9006 I already had for my sw housings. As a result of these two factors, I've decided for now I'll wait to swap the headlights on until I also have the correct bumper and modified fenders. I may also do an LED headlight conversion at the same time since I'll need new low beam bulbs anyway.

If anyone may see this and be curious, I DID set the housings in place and close the hood to take a pic or two just to show how it would look.

Non '91-'92 SC and '93-'96 SC2's all use 9005/9006 bulbs. "xs" just has a 90 connector instead of a straight-on like normal. Just makes for a tight fit, otherwise the bulb is identical to 9006.

Kinda odd that the 3rd gen SC headlights don't bolt onto the 3rd gen SL without help, but they bolt onto 2nd gen SC's just fine.

Yeah, I tried fitting the bulbs before I checked the manual. The bulbs can be fitted into the housing, BUT the result is the bracket blocks the harness from plugging into the bulb. As a result, I'd have to modify the bracket (something I don't want to do) or get the correct bulbs. I'm working on doing a 2nd gen SC2 front end swap anyway, or at least trying to find the parts for it, so once that happens it should fit correctly.

www.car-part.com

You can use this to search local wrecking yards for the hood, fenders, and front bumper to a 1997-1999 SC2, for front end parts. The space frame underneath is identical on 1996-2002 chassis, according to GM's diagrams. So, bolting everything up shouldn't be a major issue. You may be able to save some money, by ordering parts that are listed as "Not Insurance Quality" on the front end parts. These may have miniscule damage(Not Insurance Quality). The yard sometimes will list these conditions, for a part that you or I might use, but can't be sold as a replacement to a shop that is fixing a wrecked car paid for by an insurance claim. Try to inspect ALL parts before you make a purchase or deposit on the parts. Depending on the yard's return policy, you may not be able to return the parts if you don't like the quality of them.

1991-1996 SC/SC2 uses a sealed beam head lamp, because they are "pop-up" headlights. The 1993-1996 SC1 used the same front end pieces as the 1991-1995 SL/SL1/SL2/SW1/SW2

Second Generation SL/SW exterior started in 1996.

You can use this information as a reference point for the bulb replacements. First Gen SC2 headlamps are unique to the 1991-1996 SC/SC2. So, don't confuse their part numbers for the bulbs, with the ones you need to use in that third gen assembly.

I appreciate the suggestion, but not sure how much it will really help. I live fairly in the middle of nowhere in Florida with only one junkyard that I know of about 30 minutes away (pointed out to me by a local mechanic friend of mine). While a couple results on that website, searching for front bumper cover, may be just over an hour away, and if they do have the part could be worth the travel, the majority of the results were well over 1,000 miles away.
