Default Siblings Separated at Birth

A buddy of mine just picked up a 92 Toyota MR2. Red. Never seen winter. Low miles.

Quite nice.

And as I was checking it out - I began to have the oddest feeling of deja vu. I don't think I have ever seen one of these before - but I had this really weird feeling.

Then it hit me.

It looks an awful lot like a 95 SC2.

Anybody ever notice that???

Now I can't stop thinking about pulling the engine in my 95 SC2 and remounting it in back......

...
92 SC2
93 SC2
93 SW2
95 SC2
97 SL2
97 SC2
99 SC2
02 SC2
02 SL2

parts
2 94 SC2 parted out
3 96 SC2
98 SC2 - rusty frame minus engine.

REWARD EXCELLENCE!

I see I'm not the only one that thinks this would be fun

Japanese (and Korean) styling has been very much "inspired" by other design for many years.

1995 SC2
Default Re: Siblings Separated at Birth

Just keep an eye on the coolant level of that MR2. I always loved the styling of those little, sporty cars. I love mid-engine, rear drive setups, too.

The MR2 was first produced as a competition to the Pontiac Fiero in the 1980s. Eventually, Toyota sold almost 300,000 total units across the entire globe, before the model was discontinued in the late 1990s.

The engine had an issue with blowing the head gaskets, however, which is probably why you don't see too many of them left on the road. It's a shame, because they were a sporty little car.

I disagree about the similarities of the SC2, however.

You' d need to do some serious engineering - and keep the weight down. The MR2 is only 5hp more than the SC2 - But it's also almost 500 lbs heavier.

If you could rear engine the SC2 and keep the weight under 2300 lbs - you would have a wheelie machine.

I see nothing that reminds me of anything S-Series other than maybe a '91-'92's airbag-less steering wheel. Even less on the outside reminds me of a '91-'96 coupe.

That actually reminds me a bit of 3rd gen dashes (of course, it's a little hard to have a truly distinctive dash)

Looks like a separate clock above the center air vents . . . might be something I could pull from a JY for my SC2 (my mechless stereo only shows the clock if you press a button and then it goes away, and no clock at all when it is turned off . . . stupid, but you can't expect much for under $20 new)

Look at them from the front end - on less than 45 angle out.
