^^^^ Yeah, I don't really understand the whole guarding your privacy thing when your license plate is out there for everyone to see. I started obscuring the plates because it seems to be the thing to do. At least in this litigous society, I won't be sued by someone for putting their license plate on the internet.

It doesn't hurt to scrub the plate number, and might help in that 0.1% of cases where something weird is going on.

For example, I might start hanging out in Saturn forums if I know my ex-gf, who I am trying to stalk, has a Saturn. So I happen to see a pic, and if I can read the plate number, I may know it's her. No big deal, though, right? Well, depends on careful the poster is about scrubbing the picture's metadata. If so, then I know exactly when and where the pic was taken

Exif Metadata in Photographs
The information that is recorded by the camera into the photograph may include details about the camera model itself, the lens that was used, shutter speed, aperture, focal length and so on. Some modern digital cameras and camera phones are GPS enabled and they can therefore save even the location co-ordinates (latitude and longitude) with the photographs.

All this “metadata” is embedded into photographs using the standard Exif format that can easily be read by most image editing programs as well as online photo sharing websites like Flickr and Picasa Web Albums.

Here's a sad story... I looked at this 3rd Gen SW_? when I was first looking for a Saturn wagon after my Ion 3 was totaled. That was over 18 months ago. I spotted this wagon in the driveway of a house near the main road and got the nerve to go up to the house, knock on the door and ask about the car. It was not for sale but I engaged the owner in conversation about the car and told him I was looking for such a vehicle. The emerging man was an admitted Saturn enthusiast and he had owned more than one Saturn over the years. He said the car was sitting there for a while and that the transmission was broken. On close inspection the car was covered with a good coating of dust and the interior was being used to store junk. I am guessing that the car was there at least a year or two and now I am convinced perhaps even longer since another 18 months has passed. If I had the room in my yard I would offer him 100 bucks for the car and make a clean-up/restoration project of the car.

Here's another satisfying catch and release. I was on my scooter and following this 'Great White' for a good mile. I had to wait for a good long stop light and luckily he paused at a doozy (usually almost a 2 min wait - really). I still had to scramble once stopping and standing up to get my phone from my pocket. Took the shot and got the phone back in my pocket just in time for the light and to not annoy the driver behind me.

the thing is, while yes the license plate is wide open to anyone who sees it, generally you're in your home area and most people would see it, so no big deal, unless you have creeps out there who post people's license plates to the internet...

The second it goes online, *boom* some creep has your plate and could look you up. Just think of this as ya know, limiting who has your plate and who doesn't.

and with that being said I'll help this next guy out (and to prevent bandwidth abuse overload and to preserve the board formatting I converted the pics to URLs; additionally my responses are in bold)..

I drive in NYC alot and I dont think I have seen 1 S series yet, I have spotted a couple ions and vues but they dont count.

Here is this weeks worth of shots, I cover the pates just because it seems like the right thing to do, I dont know what harm could be caused by not blocking it but it doesn't do any harm to block em.

I am glad to see this thread has legs. Great shooting fans! I drove 1200 miles to Disney World Sat & Sun and saw a smattering of S cars on my trip but I couldn't do the quick shot artist moves with my wife watching ("Two hands on the wheel, Dummo"). Now I remember where I got my nickname.

The original 'Saturn' used to be on display at Epcot years ago. If I see it rotting in a backlot somewhere I'll be sure to take a pic.

So I have been at Walt Disney World for a few days taking the busses to and from the parks and I have yet to spot or shoot any S cars. Most cars here seem to be showroom new. I have spotted two Ions however-one was a grey Ion 3 with bullet hole decals on the back bumper and silver pillar/roof arches followed right behind by a white L sedan. My money is running out so I'll be heading home soon... My wife's nickname is Sue Venir.

I do believe there are plenty of s-series in Houston, but they are hard to spot because of the roads I take to work. Then again, you don't see many in the parking garage at work, so maybe not. Most of my commute is on the interstate (5 or more lanes EACH way) - yeah, it is a massive road. Hence, you can't really see what is coming from the other direction.

Heck, even the 'city' roads that I commute on are a lot like interstates. What I mean is, the major city roads in Houston, are four lane (two each way) divided by a grass median (often with trees). Hence, spotting cars coming from the other direction is not something you tend to do.

Not a lot of Saturns around here either. I've seen a few Vues and Ions (but they don't count). S-series are pretty rare. A few months ago I saw an SC going in the opposite direction that could have been my Satty's twin. Wish I could see it again - it would be fun to chat with the owner.

Anyway, I saw this SC while driving by. What year could it be? Are those wheels original?
